Daily Inspiration: Meet Armand Arnould

Today we’d like to introduce you to Armand Arnould.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Honestly, I started with poetry. I used to write insanely long poems in school. I had these dice with different subjects on them that my teacher would give me. I even got one of my poems submitted to a newspaper when I was in 3rd grade.

When I moved to Minnesota, I met some friends that were really into rapping. I didn’t know how but they had me try putting my poems over beats. Next thing you know I’m in the studio making music!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely struggled with being consistent with my music. I definitely have had some hardships where I didn’t have anywhere to record or even anywhere to live honestly.

One of the first songs I made was in my friend’s room with a blanket over my head! Also sometimes not having inspiration there was a pain. Sometimes I feel like I get writer’s block for weeks before I’m able to think of an idea again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make punk rap music if I had to give it a name. My music has such a broad spectrum though it’s so hard for me to put my finger on one exact term. My friends say they find it crazy how fast I can rap when I really put the time into it. listen to one of my newest songs “Sentirse Bien” and you can hear me go off! Honestly, that would also have to be one of my favorite singles right now.

It’s just so bouncy, and lively compared to the darker/trap style I go for. I feel like the fact that I put my heart into what I say, and practice what I preach is what makes me different. I see too many artists nowadays just trying to copy this person or that person. Just be yourself! That’s what I feel is most important.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best thing about the cities is hands down our diversity. I’ve lived in damn near every state west of Illinois, and I can confidently say Minnesota wins in acceptance and diversity. I’ve never lived somewhere with so many beliefs and viewpoints where people truly thrive.

My least favorite thing about the city is the violence. Too many of our youth are dying getting hit by stray bullets, or just getting caught in the wrong situations. Too many youths are dying at their own brothers’ hands. I wish everyone would see that this is not the way to fix anything. We should see that we’re all different but in a way the same.

Violence will never be the answer to solve anything.
