Inspiring Conversations with Jade Krueger of Reclaim Your Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Krueger.

Hi Jade, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
For as long as I can remember I had this innate sense I was meant to help others. There were times during childhood I wanted to be a ballerina or a teacher but somewhere along the way that turned into becoming a nurse, which seemed like a logical way to help people. One of the most common questions nursing students get asked is, “What area do you want to work in when you’re finished?” although I wasn’t completely sure, you might have heard me respond, “Women’s health interests me” or “preventative care or public health”, none of which I chose. After graduation, I landed a position in an Intensive Care Unit, where I stayed for almost a decade. I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience there. Nursing school taught me to view the body like a machine and so the approach to fixing disease was a well-oiled standardized system.

This proved to be quite beneficial in acute and critical situations. However, coming from a smaller community you become familiar with patients who require more frequent hospital stays for chronic conditions. Naturally, I am an inquisitive person, so it began to make me wonder what’s missing from the care we’re providing. I thought we’ve done what we’re trained to do but there’s a breakdown somewhere. During my time in ICU, I slowly began to take interest in a more alternative, holistic, and natural approach to my own health. I have researched and dabbled in many different methods and modalities over the years. As I was learning and healing on a personal level it continued to change the way I viewed the care I provided to patients and their outcomes. Most patients had been taught or had some idea of what changes could be made to achieve a higher level of health and wellness, so why weren’t they? Fast forward to the pandemic. In general, nursing is a difficult profession and there are situations that school or training can’t prepare you for; How to cope with what you encounter is covered less.

Most nurses, like myself, become nurses because they want to help people and throughout the pandemic, we didn’t always feel like we were able to do that. We experienced sicker patients, increased length of stays, ineffective treatment options, and a massive increase in patient deaths, which only exacerbated many issues in our healthcare system–the staffing shortage being a major one. Despite my personal health progress, I found myself on the fast track to burnout. My mental and emotional fatigue reached all-time highs and my physical body was at its breaking point, so in November 2021 I resigned. In my final weeks of work, I was frequently asked, “What will you do now?” and my response always included rest and taking care of myself. I planned to take a year off and came across a holistic coaching program that I thought would benefit me personally and also get my wheels turning for the future. Leaving my previous position allowed me to answer some of those questions I asked myself for years. I discovered that achieving true health and wellness happens when you give an individualized meaning to those terms and that lifestyle and behavioral changes are impacted by our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and overall belief systems. None of these were fully supported in a hospital setting.

And thus, the idea for my business Reclaim Your Wellness was created. You could say I’m being called back to what once interested me, preventative care and women’s health. Although I’m a firm believer that everything we go through has a reason, even if we don’t understand it. Reclaim Your Wellness allows me to help others live the life they envision by connecting the pieces I feel are missing from standard healthcare, the individualized goals, and discovering and working through the root cause of why you’re not achieving your goals; utilizing my medical experience and my coaching knowledge, infused with holistic body-mind approach and blended with alternative methods.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle I faced was overcoming fear. I had to get really honest with myself about what I wanted in life and what was best for me and sit with it, which included walking away from my previous position with known stability. Leaving created and reopened emotional wounds so I had to take time to do personal work. Over the years as my point of view changed, I didn’t always feel like I “fit” where I was, but one thing that strengthened was my patient advocacy.

I felt compelled to have the patient’s choices heard and respected, even when they differed from the standard way. By supporting others through having their voices heard and choices respected I was ultimately able to do the same for myself. Navigating starting a business and having faith that everything will work out takes mental agility.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
