Check Out Jennifer Neumann’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Neumann.

Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always loved writing. As a child, I moved often and found building long-term friendships hard. Music and writing were the only constants, and I found comfort in both. I feel more comfortable writing my thoughts than verbalizing them. Through the years, I have written poetry and stories. Years ago, I sent children’s story manuscripts to large publishing companies; however, nothing came of it, only letters explaining in so many words that I needed an agent. Fast forward to the present day, I work as a nurse, my kids are grown, and I have learned much about the new world of self-publishing and print-on-demand.

I use writing as an outlet for all emotions. I find inspiration everywhere. I have become passionate about the environment and health and incorporate some of that passion into my writing. Over the last year, I have self-published eight children’s books and am currently working on projects, including additional children’s books and a novel. I also recently started a print-on-demand apparel business, including hoodies, tee shirts, and totes. I encourage everyone to find a healthy outlet and to find appreciation for creativity.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Obstacles and challenges occur every day. However, I have learned to push on even when things get tough. I use discouragement as fuel to work harder at achieving my goals. I also know that sometimes it takes patience. I have experienced imposter syndrome. Do you know that little voice in your head that tells you your work is not good enough? One thing that has helped me learn to persevere is running and hiking.

When you are five miles from your car, and the heavy rain starts, you need to pull out the positive self-talk and rally.

I also remind myself of all the obstacles I have overcome up to this point. When you get negative reviews or no responses at all, don’t let that discourage you. Let that be your fuel to keep going. I succeed when even one of my projects is viewed or purchased. We all measure success differently but try to be easy on yourself; otherwise, passion could become a nuisance.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an author, publisher, and creator. Over the last year, I have been working on creating and publishing children’s books. In addition, I launched a website, jjneumannsbooks.com, for easy purchase links to Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

I also recently started allearthapparel.com, which now links to Etsy for print-on-demand graphic hoodies, tee shirts, and totes I create. I incorporate wildlife, nature, health, and humor in many of my creations. I plan to include more vulnerable and endangered species mentions in future projects.

What does success mean to you?
We all define success a little differently. For myself, success is the peace I find when I am working on a book or other creation. I forget day-to-day life stresses when engrossed in a project.

Success is also when I see that someone has read one of my books or that a bookstore now lists or carries my books. If just one person, one child, reads one of my books, that is success for me.
