Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Nelson.
Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am Megan Nelson, owner + founder of Nest with the Nelsons, a virtual interior design business operating out of our home in Omaha, Nebraska. I haven’t always been an interior designer. My background is in marketing, communication, and graphic design through my undergraduate degree, and my master’s degree is in public management. Now looking back — nonconventional as it may be — all good skills for a good foundation for establishing a thriving interior design business.
We launched our business online in April of 2021 while I was working part-time from home for the University here in Omaha and raising our two small children. Once my husband, Matt, and I learned that we would be expecting our third child, we quickly started making arrangements to find a way for me to dive full-time into my passion for beautiful homes, design, and decor. And now we’ve never looked back!
My passion for homes is certainly not a newfound love. I have always enjoyed roaming the aisles of a great home decor store with my mom. Even from a young age, I can remember spending countless hours shopping for just the right piece to add to my room growing up or helping mom acquire a great little vignette to totally transform a nook in our family home. I love bringing my love for design to life in my client’s homes through our virtual approach to luxury interior design, time and time again. It just brings me (and our clients!) so much joy!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our journey to our business has been fairly smooth. The biggest struggles that I face as an entrepreneur are balancing hectic schedules for our growing business in addition to being a busy mom of three kiddos, eight and under. The days are long and hectic, but so rewarding to see our client’s home projects come to life.
Even though it might require working on our virtual projects through nap time, between school drop-offs and pick-ups, and even in the wee hours of the evening during nighttime feedings. We make it all work and are so very grateful for the opportunity to serve clients in our backyard of Omaha, Minnesota, and beyond.
