Today we’d like to introduce you to Linn Thao.
Hi Linn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Honestly, just a girl with big dreams. I have always known that I want what is best for myself and so I have always worked towards that.
The challenge is realizing that it is ok to have zero experience because that simply means that there is something that can be experienced!
I have learned that every step I have taken, every season has a purpose and builds and prepares me for the next. Everything is a stepping stone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My greatest struggle is feeling like I am enough. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others and feel inadequate, but the reality is there is simply no one else like you. So fight for yourself, be confident in yourself, and thrive as you are.
Of course, this is a lot easier said than done, but when you feel comfortable in who you are – people can tell. This is definitely something I am still working on but I want my daughter to grow up knowing that her mother is a strong beautiful woman just because she is herself. I want her to grow up knowing she is enough.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a working (first-time) mom, 4 months postpartum. I am a project manager for a marketing agency out of state, so I work remotely and it truly is a blessing as I navigate motherhood and work. Project Management isn’t something I went to college for nor did I even think that it was something I would pursue.
After college, I started working as an event planner and that’s when I began to realize how the role resonated well with how my mind worked. I began to dive deeper into what I wanted to do as a career and when I realized that the skills of a project manager were exactly the skills I’ve sharpened as an event planner and was good at. That’s how I ended up where I am now. Funny how life lines up even when you think where you’re currently at doesn’t make any sense.
I am so proud of how far I’ve come as a professional. I used to be such a people-pleasing, shy, and robotic employee, but now I am using my voice and advocating for myself. I fight for my worth, set boundaries, and create a safe working space for myself. I am very thankful that even though I may not have people around me to tell me to do these things, I have been given the power to tell others.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Don’t be afraid to try things, even if they don’t pan out. It’s the experience that truly sharpens us. Rather try and know it didn’t work out than wonder what if.
My heart is all about partnering with others to be the best that they can be and be the main character in their story. Tune in to The Daily Gloss podcast that I host with my best friend, Stephanie. We love talking about anything and everything and bringing genuineness to the table. Hope to hear from you there!
