Hi Allen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Allen Chen, I’m from North Dakota, and 35 years old Asian male. I have been in the restaurant business since I was 17 started working at my dad’s restaurant after I got married at 27, I started up my own business a Chinese restaurant in North Dakota, and sold that after my first child was born, move to phoenix AZ to start up my sushi restaurant with some partners, sold the business to my partners after over a year then move to Minnesota start up the brand new concept of Asian Hawaiian style poke bowl around the metro area.
After 2 years of helping out building up 6 locations and finding out the company is going in a different direction than we first start it, I decided to move along to start up my style poke shop with a good theme with different diversity culture elements into it, April 21, 2023, is the grand opening of poke wave in Edina MN. Future I decided to open up a few more locations around the state.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Friends and family are being super supported and helpful, of course for a new business it hasn’t been smooth at all, it takes me a while to find out the resources for putting everything together now the new business is facing how to put the names out to the public and attracting the customer.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Poke Wave is locally owned and owner-operated, so we super focus on freshness and quality control just because we are dealing with raw ingredients so we always being extra careful with it.
I think what sets us apart from others is we are passionate and creative; we enjoy what we do and love what we do. What we are most proud of the brand is how creative we are with the bowls and the loveable service we provide for our customers and putting a smile on their faces.
I want the readers to know that we will always carry the brand with pride and serve it with the highest quality and fresh food that we provide.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Even though we are using similar ingredients but our food is soo much fresher and better than the others. we are what we advertised.
