Today we’d like to introduce you to Darnishia Smith.
Hi Darnishia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Darnishia Mcentee aka the “Dread Doctor” with Fine Dreadlocs LLC. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and at age 18, I relocated to Minnesota (MN). My vision is to be able to impart my Loctician knowledge to others and teach young women and men how to become black Loctician entrepreneurs. I am bringing my talents and skill sets from the Midwest to the West Coast.
My story began in 2014; I started Fine Dreadlocs in my kitchen home in (MN). I desired to be a great loctician that is knowledgeable with styling natural hair, re-twisting locs, maintaining locs, and making repairs on locs. I attended a loc program where I learned how to maintain locs, repair locs, create loc extensions, and design original loc hairstyles. I became to understand the reconstruction process by learning how to properly re-twist a client’s natural hair without affecting any hair damage. My research included mastering & maintaining natural locs by creating my black beauty natural hair products for children, men, and women.
In 2016, I quickly moved into my first beauty shop in Minnesota servicing a large clientele. In 2017, I made a major relocation to Glendale, Arizona (AZ) and I quickly increased my clientele by marketing my talents. I attended Beauty School in Arizona and obtained my AZ cosmetology license while continuing to study and master black natural hair products. During my first year living in AZ, I entered a Loc contest and won 2nd place for “Best Locs and Style”.
For over eight years, I have mastered ways to repair locs so seamlessly that no one can distinguish if it is loc extensions or your hair. I use natural products that will simulate hair follicle growth by taking my time and making sure that I am not adding any products that will produce any build-up in your loc hair and scalp. I DO NOT promote wax or gel products that produce gunk build and your hair follicles will be clogged enabling growth so knowledge is crucial in keeping you healthy and happy. I have a particular unique precise style about my parting, when creating parts for either Loc Extensions or Loc Starts I am very detailed and meticulous.
Today, Fine Dreadlocs LLC offers Loc Extensions, regular Loc maintenance, Loc Re-twist, Loc Coloring/Tips, Loc Starters, Loc Custom Styles, Detoxification, Hot Oil treatments, and Loc Bundles. I guarantee you will have a great experience while gaining natural hair knowledge and education for protection upkeep on your locs. Fine Dreadlocs makes sure that you have the necessary products needed by selling natural hair products, a variety of my home-based FinedreadLocs oils, hair scarves, swimming caps, hair accessories, firm edge control, loc socs (head wrap), Loc jewelry and Fine Dreadlocs T-shirts/hats/caps. We have snacks, bottled water, and juices available for sale if you want.
I love teaching my level of loc’s knowledge and giving back to the community. My passion is to continue to teach Loc classes and empower black men and women to become Loc entrepreneurs!
