Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Hendricks.

Elizabeth Hendricks

Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have always thought it would be fun to own some sort of clothing store but most of all, I have always been a big believer in doing something you truly enjoy. I have always had the mindset, that once you don’t enjoy it, it’s time for a change. My mom passed away in 2018 from cancer and her words always stuck with me, “DO YOU MOON.” Moon was her nickname for me!

So in July 2020, I was finding myself thinking…What’s next? I asked myself, what do I love to do? My answer was, “SHOPPING”….then I asked, what do I love to buy the most? “WORKOUT CLOTHES.” My next question is, is there a way I can make money doing this? “YES A CLOTHING LINE.” And then the idea popped into my head to create a company in my mama’s memory, and I immediately heard her voice saying “DO YOU MOON” and the name was born. DYM Athletics standing for DO YOU MOON. So I quickly hopped on Google and searched, “how to start a clothing company.” I had no idea what I was doing but I have always been pretty good at figuring out things along the way! That was in July 2020 and Nov. 2020 the website was LIVE.

My intention for the company was, “It’s a fun side thing for now but let’s see where it goes!” I made sure to be consistent on all the social media platforms and within the first 3 months, it was now my full-time gig! I feel very grateful that I established a loyal customer base right from the beginning and I continue to have so much gratitude for every one of them! Never did I think it would turn into something like shipping to every state in the United States and now to over 30+ countries! I am very excited to see what happens in the next 5, 10, 20 years!

It’s all about finding something you love, being excited about it, staying consistent & most of all taking a risk!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest obstacle within the business is keeping up with the marketing trends. Social media is forever evolving and you are forced to do the same if you want to keep being relevant and growing. This has been the biggest challenge but what would success be without some challenges? It feels so much more rewarding when you overcome obstacles!

There are also life obstacles, I went through a divorce and moved my entire business/inventory across the United States from Boise to MN in the midst of it all in 2021. While getting settled, I worked out of my dad’s garage for 3 months during one of the busiest times in business. I had no choice but to keep my head up, look at all the blessings, and be thankful for the business I had that allowed me to continue forward!

Challenges and obstacles will always be present, it’s all perspective and how you choose to navigate through them!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
DYM Athletics is an affordable brand of activewear and athleisure wear. We specialize in having high-quality clothing without a high price tag. It’s a challenge to find quality these days without the high price, we offer that. Our clothing is quality, functional & trendy! A lot of women compare it to Lululemon, Athleta, and other high-end brands.

We are constantly expanding our inventory to keep up with trends and always offering new styles to keep your wardrobe up to date! We have also recently started expanding our sizing as well to be more accommodating to women of all sizes.

How do you define success?
As I mentioned before, a huge part of “success” in my mind is doing something you enjoy, this also allows you to create a healthy work/life balance to experience life as a whole and feel the enjoyment of it along the way!

Success is also doing consistent work and striving for the best possible result. Success does require a strong work ethic but if you have dedication to doing the best, doing your best, that is the first step.

Hard Work, Dedication, Enjoyment, Life Experiences = SUCCESS! I believe when you have these key components, “financial” success follows.
