Today we’d like to introduce you to Janette Xiong.
Hi Janette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was up late scrolling TikTok one night when I saw a video about starting your own Photo Booth business. I was intrigued and researched it for the next two hours! Within 48 hours, I had picked a business name and fully registered my business. I knew that I had to start making real moves if I wanted to put my words into action.
I’m a very shy introvert, so I questioned if I’d be successful in this industry. Starting this business has challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone! I’ve learned a lot about myself in this short time and what I am capable of. I’m no longer afraid to ask questions; I enjoy meeting people and making connections.
In addition to this spontaneous act, I’ve always enjoyed taking photos at events for my friends and family. Most times, hosts are so busy entertaining their guests that they don’t get to take photos. I would do my best to take photos and send them to the family after so that they have some photo memories to hold onto.
I also have to thank my husband for inspiring me to start my own business. He’s always had an entrepreneurial spirit, whereas I’ve always been shy in taking financial risks. Seeing him take risks and being able to accomplish his goals encouraged me to just take the plunge.
I’m still a pretty new company and just recently started in April of this year. Things are going as I expected them to—I’m slowly picking up traction. At first, most of my customers were friends and family, or mutual friends, but I’m finally starting to get new customers which has been extremely validating.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it’s been a pretty smooth ride! I do encounter the expected technical issues, but alongside the Photo Booth community, I’ve been able to resolve my issues pretty quickly. I’d say the challenging part has been gaining new customers. I’m still learning how to give my business exposure.
On a personal level, July was a very tough month for me. My grandma was hospitalized twice within the month and passed away on July 26th. It was tough. I considered putting my business on pause to allow myself time to grieve. It was hard to imagine myself going out to these beautiful, upbeat celebrations while I was grieving.
However, I quickly realized that as a business owner, I have to learn to operate through these harsh realities of life. I do look forward to my customer’s events, and I have a lot of fun prepping for the events. Running this business in a sense separates me from my daily activities and stressors.
Thanks – So what else should our readers know about The Photo Bar LLC?
The Photo Bar LLC is a Photo Booth rental company owned and run solely by me. I do everything by myself, from creating the custom photo templates and start screens, to loading and unloading my vehicle, to setting up and taking down at events, to operating the booth at events.
I focus heavily on customer service skills, which is so important in this industry. You’re helping customers who are celebrating some of their most important milestones in life! The fact that somebody is putting their trust in me to capture memories for them is such an honor. I strive to bring my customer’s vision to life and work hard to create graphics that meet their desires.
Currently, I offer two types of Photo Booths: digital and physical prints. I want my customers to be able to pick which Photo Booth best fits their needs. Additionally, I wanted to be able to offer a budget-friendly option, because I believe that everyone should have the privilege to enjoy a Photo Booth. Rest assured, budget-friendly does NOT mean less quality! I take pride in my quality and treat every customer with dignity.
There is no event too small, too big, or too insignificant for a Photo Booth. Photo Booths are so much fun for everyone of all ages! If you want to elevate your event, rent a Photo Booth. At the end of the day, I always get feedback that the Photo Booth was the highlight of the event!
