Today we’d like to introduce you to Roby Juanitas.
Hi Roby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started cooking at a very young age, 11 years old, not by choice, but by being raised in the Filipino culture. It is natural for kids to be taught the fundamentals of cooking as well as helping in and around the house in general. Once I became a mother, I was ready to take on cooking challenges. I was always making something out of nothing and making it fast! I was born in the Philippines and came to the US at the age of 11. I was blessed enough to be raised by a Mexican step Father and Filipina Mother. Growing up with both cultures and food it definitely plays a huge part of my love for cooking. I am a transplant in the Twin Cities, moved here last year from San Diego, CA and loving it!
My love for cooking and sharing my mother’s cooking didn’t start until my mom passed away in 2014. At first, I was hesitant to share what I learned from her because it is personal, special, and a beloved gift she shared with me. It was something I wanted to keep for myself and my family only.
Fast forward to now, I realized how much sharing her cooking keeps her memory alive and the way people love my cooking is also saying how much they love her and that is why I do what I do and why I am here today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like all journeys, there are bumps in the road, but that’s okay! Since starting Subo, we have found the most struggle in making enough time in the day to grow our business along with our usual day-to-day tasks.
At times, it feels like I am choosing between what I want to do and what I need to do. Although it can be tough at times to balance it all, I look forward to the challenges and embrace every little step.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in cooking and serving authentic Filipino food. I’m most proud of the love and passion I put into making every dish! And I truly believe that is what sets me apart.
I am very proud of every dish I make starting with preparing the food, to cooking the food; to the serving and presentation of our dishes. We are known for our delicious lumpia and pancit – Filipino food staples! Our customers also rave about our juicy, no-sauce, grilled chicken and crispy, fried chicken that each pack a ton of flavor.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
