Life & Work with Sammy Wroge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammy Wroge.

Sammy Wroge

Hi Sammy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always had an interest in music and the media. When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to make a career out of it in some way, specifically on the music side of things.

During my junior and senior years, I knew I wanted to go into the music industry as a music manager. I was not quite sure how to get started, but I got involved in anything I could get my hands on. Networking was also my best friend and still is. That is single-handedly one of the most important parts of working in the music and entertainment industry or any industry for that matter.

During the stay-at-home orders of the pandemic, I did some networking right through my phone. TikTok was huge during this time (and still is), so I got myself involved in working as a freelance project manager for a talent agency. Although this was not a music industry-specific job, it opened the doors to various opportunities and taught me more about the industry as a whole.

After a year of freelance work, I decided to end my time with the talent agency and was ready to start my own company. It started as a talent management company where I worked with both artists and influencers but later made the change to be a music-exclusive company. Some adjustments have been made since starting the company and I continue to make advances, but I now own Good Company Creations, LLC, a music management company.

The name of this company is inspired by the Disney movie, “Oliver & Company”. I once owned a kitty named Oliver based on the movie, which led me to get a tattoo that says, “Good Company”, which is one of the songs in the movie. I wanted to add deeper meaning, so my parents helped me come up with the name of my music management company.

I currently manage three artists exclusively but have begun offering services outside of management as a way to never limit myself to the artists I have the pleasure of working with. On top of my own company, I am also a talent manager where I continue to work with content creators as well.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, it has been smooth. Some of the biggest challenges are adapting to new trends and technologies as social media continues to advance. In addition, marketing music continues to look different. TikTok is still a powerful way to market your music, but it looks different now than at the start of the pandemic for example.

Additionally, I am still learning as I go. You do not just start a company and have all the answers. No single person has all the answers. You learn from taking a leap of faith and going for it. I am very thankful to work with such patient artists who are willing to learn and grow with me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a creative and business owner who specializes in music management. I am known for my love of music! I am always at a concert or listening to something!

I am most proud of my artists and their craft, as well as the progress I have made in the music industry and with my company thus far and continue to make. I think what sets me apart is how I became a business owner at the age of 20 while I was still a full-time college student.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is not linear! Success is the little wins! Success can be anything, such as my artist releasing a song, updating my website, networking with someone new, etc. Success can be found in growth and motivation.
