Today we’d like to introduce you to Dallas Fitch.
Hi Dallas, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved photography as long as I can remember. When I was growing up and during high school, I took every photo course offered at my High School and also TA’d in the darkroom my senior year. I moved to Winona to attend WSU in 2004 where I got my degree in Mass Communications – Advertising, and that’s where I learned the ins and outs of Photoshop and digital manipulation.
From there, my interest and skills just kept growing and growing, and once I started having kids of my own, it gave me the push I needed to start doing it professionally. I wanted to be able to document their lives in a sustainable way that would last for years to come.
I started my business in 2016, mainly photographing family and friends. Throughout the years, and word of mouth of my amazing clients, my business has grown into something I could have never dreamed of. I opened a photo studio during covid which let me expand my offerings for newborn and milestone/family sessions, which is really where my true love lies.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always been of the mindset of “if you can’t walk, crawl… just don’t stop moving”. Covid was a downfall for a lot of small businesses, including mine. I had to become creative to continue shooting while doing my best to keep myself and my clients safe and healthy.
I also have had 3 babies which meant sleepless nights/years, which made finding time to edit and shoot stressful and hard. Luckily, my clients have always been and continue to be the most amazingly patient and understanding people in the world.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a natural light outdoor photographer as well as a studio photographer in Winona, MN. I specialize in newborns, milestones, and family sessions. I have a sweet little studio in the heart of downtown Winona on 3rd Street that I transformed from a dull, dreary tax office into a magical space to invite clients to where we make memories that will last a lifetime.
I also have the bonus of living on a 200+ acre beef farm in Pickwick, MN, which allows my clients special access to locations that are truly one-of-a-kind in our area. My clients rave about how comfortable they are working with me, and how laid back and go-with-the-flow I am with their sometimes less-than-cooperative littles.
I wholeheartedly understand how different and unique each child/family member is, and I use that to my advantage to create and capture sessions that are a true reflection of themselves and this moment in time we’re on this earth.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m beyond grateful for all of the little slivers of peoples’ lives they’ve shared with me over the years. My heart is so, so full from this gig.
