Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Nordrum.
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was introduced to professional wrestling by accident by my older brother Ryan Nordrum. He and his friends were really into it and I always wanted to be like him so I started following it. I didn’t really “get it”/understand what I was watching until the late 1990’s when Austin and Rock were revolutionizing the business.
While my brother and his friends slowly phased out, I remained hooked and only fell deeper in love with pro wrestling. I was captivated by the production and the storytelling. The concept of live-action superhero dramas playing out in real life every Monday night was just such a wild concept to me.
After spending the first 22 years of my life as a fan, I was given the opportunity to work for David Sabick’s Heavy on Wrestling in Duluth, Minnesota. My work consisted of web design, video editing, and social media management. Through this job, I had the opportunity to meet countless childhood icons and heroes. I even got to eat dinner with Rowdy Roddy Piper at a casino in Red Cliff, Wisconsin in late August of 2014.
While I was immeasurably grateful for David and the education he had given me, I knew in my heart that I wanted to build my project from the ground up. I registered the Discover Pro Wrestling web domain in late March of 2017 but kept the project dormant while I soaked up all the knowledge I could from David.
I chose to part ways with Heavy on Wrestling in June of 2019. On January 1st, 2020 we officially launched Discover Pro Wrestling. Our plans were bold and broad and would have been an amazing story to tell, however Mother Nature had other plans. While preparing for our inaugural event slated for June 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic threw the world into disarray.
Though countless dollars were lost, we had no viable alternative to postponing our first event. The show for June of 2020 would not happen until August of 2021. Over a year later. The grand plan and concepts we had prepared for our original debut unfortunately would be forced to change if we wanted the project to survive the pandemic.
I’ve always been a big believer and truster of fate. While our first event for 2020 would have been the start of an amazing series of rapid succession events, the series of events that ultimately came to fruition were just as if not more incredible than what we originally planned.
Our champion Sierra has held the DPW Championship belt now for over two years. She carried us out of the pandemic and has kept us stable as a company. Sierra and the whole locker room that she leads are committed to making DPW the most innovative and exciting product in the Midwest and beyond.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My background is primarily in video editing and production. I run another small business called Nordrum Marketing Solutions where I help people get their business up and running and offer marketing solutions to existing businesses.
I think I’m most known for my cinematic style of editing and the overall look and feel of DPW. I always say I want people to think that DPW is Christopher Nolan’s wrestling company based on our cinematic approach to production.
I’ve recorded several albums with different bands throughout my life and am an avid musician. I’m a huge gamer and I also am a drone pilot.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Don’t give up. Learn how to adapt. If you want something bad enough you will find any way to make it happen. You learn who your true friends are when you’re at your lowest point in life.
