Life & Work with Sasha Cassadine of Minneapolis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Cassadine.

Sasha Cassadine

Hi Sasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, Sasha was born on the night of March 22, 2008. I performed in a talent. It was a night back home in Memphis, and a star was born. I was quickly swallowed up by all of the love I received from performing, and I couldn’t stop doing it, even though it was only supposed to happen once, haha.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been rough being an artist in the industry in so many ways; I was almost homeless several times, not to mention it was super expensive trying to do it right, so I didn’t get shows that I wanted to be a part of emotionally I was so drained I almost quit drag so many times but every time I tried something good would happen it was if this art form was truly meant for me. Fast forward to today. Folks call me the queen mother of drag brunch, and I am also the queen of the digital drag shows during COVID-19. It has been an honor, and I’m so grateful for all the love.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional Drag Queen Show Director and Host of FlipPhone events. I have been doing this professionally for 16 years, 10 years. I’m also the Host of the Lemon Squeeze podcast and a cast member at the Gay 90s Ladies of La Femme show.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a happy kid but very conservative in a lot of ways; growing up in TN is different, so I always tried to hide my queerness because people are super religious and homophobic, so I usually stayed to myself. I had an exciting childhood. My teenage years were crazy. I was discovering myself and wasn’t always happy with the result. I used to think why anyone would want to be gay, so I fought hard to hide it and blend in. Video games were my outlet, so I dived head first into that world, and I have to say that is where my creative side comes from gaming🥰
