Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua & Bao Yang.
Hi Joshua & Bao, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a husband and wife duo who own and operate JB Studio & Co, a newly founded storefront studio available for hourly rentals. We were fortunate to have been allowed to start our business on such short notice, and we did not wait for the blessing to pass us by. While there were many learning curves and hesitation to open our studio to the public, we know this is only a stepping stone to what we ultimately want to achieve. JBS welcomes photographers, creatives, and small businesses to utilize our space for their creative needs. While our vision is geared more toward photography use, this has not limited our studio’s use to hosting yoga sessions and even small events. This prime location has been an extreme hit with ample parking, private entry, studio access, and amenities. When we began renovating our studio space (currently shared office space with our friends), we had a vision that we’d provide a space suitable for what we don’t often see in the Twin Cities: clean blank walls with minimal decor, all the while, experiencing and getting timeless images. We figured, ‘less is more,’ and it still holds. We love all of the photo sessions and events shared with us, and it brings a sense of outstanding achievement that we made our dreams come true.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were challenging days on how we wanted to operate JBS, managing studio access, and ensuring sessions were distinct. This has gotten much easier with time, but a huge thanks to all of our clients for being so patient with us as we navigated through changes and flows that worked best for JBS. We love client feedback. This has helped with what people love about the studio and even things we can work on. It’s an ever-changing need for studio use, so feedback regularly lets us understand current demands.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By day, Joshua is a Product Analyst Marketing Manager for a local e-commerce business. Joshua has evolved with the company, climbing up the ladder, and now manages teams from the Woodbury home office to outsource teams in Malaysia and more. In total, Joshua has been with the company for 11 years. By day, Bao is a Customer Service Manager for the same local e-commerce company, handling her team from both in-house and outsourced members. Bao has been with the company for 10 years. On most weekday evenings and weekends, Bao focuses on her photography business (Bao Yang Photos, LLC), working with clients, sessions, and weddings. Bao enjoys family photoshoots but specializes in seniors, couples, families, and weddings. By night, Joshua and Bao enjoy working on the studio, developing new ideas to vamp up the space, and maintaining workflow, bookings, and clientele.
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
Family. My family has always been something we love and cherish, whether it means making breakfast at Grandma and Grandpa’s house or rounding everyone up for game night. Most of our family are scattered here in Minnesota and California, so when we get the opportunity to visit, we jump on it. When we also get the love and support from our families, our relationship thrives ten times more. It makes our businesses more pleasurable, and their faith in our successes allows us to continue to do what we are passionate about.
