Today we’d like to introduce you to Silas Ansera.
Hi Silas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Initially, I wanted to work in the psychology/social work profession. I graduated from St. Kate’s to pursue this career goal. I enjoyed working in the field but I wasn’t more passionate than I thought. I kept at it because I didn’t know what else I would do, nor did I want to “waste” my four-year degree. Shortly after starting a new position in this field, we went into lockdown, and I also found out I was pregnant with my first son. Being home increased my obsession with cleaning and organizing more than it had already been. Cleaning has been a relaxing outlet for me for as long as I can remember. At this point, there was no interest in starting a company, nor had it come to mind. Fast forward to being three months postpartum, I found out I was pregnant again with another baby boy. Irish twins, they call it. Crazy, I know; I was shocked! In July 2021, I left case management / social work to stay home with my 7-month-old son, expecting my second in November. Come January of 2022, I wanted to do something that would bring income and flexibility as a mom of two. It was and still is very important to me to be present in watching my boys grow up. I then realized why not turn something I love into a business. That’s when I took my love for cleaning and created Soulful Bliss. I was booked out months in less than two weeks and couldn’t imagine picking up so quickly. It was such a blessing to myself and my family! I could hire my first employee and a few more in six months. The rest was history!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say it’s been a smooth road, but then I’d be lying! However, it wasn’t rough in ways many would think. Starting the company wasn’t the challenge. I started with the supplies I had on hand, used my equipment, made a post, and boom was booking. The hard part was knowing my limits. How to take care of my body three months postpartum with a second c-section in less than a year, finding the proper care for my boys as business picked up quickly, and knowing how to balance being a mom of two under one at a time plus being a business owner. There were many weeks I worked 50+ hours to keep the company going positively and stayed up late at night to do all my admin work. While doing this, I somehow managed to be a present mom. It was exhausting but rewarding! I will forever be thankful to my village for picking up the pieces I needed to pursue this business idea. My boy’s father has a demanding and unpredictable career, so it took some extra hands to realize this vision. My sister and her fiancé stepped in to help watch my boys for free the first few months while I started my company during the weekdays and my parents when I needed the weekend help occasionally. Unfortunately, around 5ish months into this new journey, I re-injured my shoulder severely. I was devastated when my scans came back, and I had to take a step back. My best friend knew how much keeping this business going meant to me and stepped in for a few months to help with various tasks. This allowed me to work part-time, focus on healing my injury, and be a mom. I will always be so thankful to her! To take a step back from a thriving company that was so new was extremely hard and defeating, but with my support system, this company is thriving beyond what I had envisioned.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Soulful Bliss is a small cleaning company that offers one-time, bi-weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleans when available. I specialize in helping many individuals, couples, and families with daunting tasks! I am a part of the village it takes to keep a household running. What sets my company apart from others is simply being human. Life happens, and within reason, being understanding has gone a long way. It creates a personal-family-like environment that all of my clients appreciate/love. I am so proud that because of my business, I have met and connected with the most amazing people; some have even become like family! I have also had the opportunity to help others who want to start a small business like mine or in other areas of interest, and it’s been so rewarding to mentor these individuals!
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
Creating a life filled with growth and purpose, being present with my family/close friends, making memories, succeeding, and having faith are big factors. Growing up, I faced many challenges, but in hard times, leaning on my faith pushed me to want more, and I know that’s always been a drive in my successes. I want to be an example to my boys and others that no matter the circumstances, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel; you have to want more, be okay with being uncomfortable, and go for it!
