Conversations with Josh Sky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Sky.

Josh Sky

Hi Josh Sky, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started as a bass player and singer in a blues hip-hop group with my best friend Joe, and we formed Joe & The Mechanics. We agreed to part ways after I expressed wanting more creative control, and then I started a solo indie pop career with some friends I met at work. The project was called Josh Sky. After our first, we began writing for the second EP. There was a lot more contribution from everyone than just me, and we decided to switch up the sound head in a shoegaze direction and change the band name to what it is now. Nothing but joy and waiting to drop our first single, “Red Rover.”

Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
Most obstacles are how much money you need to finance a project and turn a profit with it. I love making music, and it’s all I eat and breathe. If I could get paid decently to do it, that would be cool.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I don’t just make music; I create soundscapes. My voice, with its high-pitched falsetto, is my signature. But what truly sets me apart is my love for each song’s slow, meticulous crafting. I add layers upon layers until, collectively, it’s a musical journey you wouldn’t have expected.

What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I’m immersed in Chicago’s vibrant music scene, playing regular shows. I’m captivated by their heavy-gaze music scene, and I aspire to be a significant part of it in the coming years.
