Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeke Williams.
Hi Zeke, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Ezekiel Williams, also known as Zeke or Mr. Phyzeke through social media. I am a 30-year-old transman born and raised in the Chicagoland area—former division 1 athlete and professional Rugby player for the USA national team before transitioning. I continue my love for sports and athletics through my work as a personal trainer/health coach. I am the second oldest of 7 children, raised by my grandparents, whom I love dearly and who are the heart and soul of who I am. I am passionate about helping others and defying the odds in every arena.
Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
Like many, my road travel has been challenging. Divided from my 7 siblings at a young age, never knowing my biological father, and having an incredibly strained relationship with my mother have been a few glaring obstacles I have faced; having loving, praying, supportive grandparents has been the sole reason for my drive to become something better and not fall to the “wayside,” as my grandmother would say.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While I hold a 9-5 to pay the bills, I am an entrepreneur and health coach. I specialize in health and wellness, from weight training, Olympic/powerlifting, and body weight to almost any sport. Training and sports have been my passion and specialty since I was young. I have participated and thrived in athletics, ranked #7 in Illinois for 17-year-olds in Olympic powerlifting, tennis, basketball, and division 1 track, all the way up to the USA Olympic Rugby team. Training and sports are what I am most known for. I am proud of my time as a USA National Rugby team member. While my separation from sports was devastating, I firmly believe everything happens for a reason and works together. What sets me apart from others is me; from my biracial background, unique family dynamic, and path in life down to my distinct tattoos, I am a memorable character in whatever room I step in.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck. Opportunity meets preparation; hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Another power is always at play; all we can do is meet that power halfway. God, or my belief system, has played an enormous role in my life and business. It has kept me determined and going in every industry and personal obstacle I have ever faced. My faith in “all things working together” has always kept me going and working hard.
