Check Out Gillian & Michael Ryerse’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gillian & Michael Ryerse

Hi Gillian & Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Mike and I met after he moved into one of my best friend’s houses. Our friend invited me over to celebrate him moving in. Listening to music, I started singing Kehlani’s “I Need a Gangster” and Mike asked me to record with him and go to Cuban at Victor’s. I decided to do both after a cat and mouse game. That was 7 years ago, now we’re married!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all a smooth road… I can get very much in my head about things and life. My day job takes a huge toll on me from day to day and sometimes recording music can feel like a chore. Mike is always ready and willing to do whatever it takes to support me in our music, but new material has always hung in the balance of me being emotionally and physically ready to perform. Mike is the best partner ever because he is so supportive and understanding of what we are doing and knowing it takes both of us giving it our all.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are Lazenlow a 4-piece indie rock outfit out of Minneapolis. We specialize in darker synthier music that is built on pop song structures.

We are most proud of our long road of building an organic fan base with not the easiest market or style of music.

We try to hit a sweet spot between catchy, memorable tunes and experimental weirdness that we think makes us stand out from the crowd.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Mike and I are a happily married couple. That’s a tough subject to write about so most of our songs pull from past relationships that ended poorly. We also love to write about other art that inspires us, especially movies and tv shows.
