Life & Work with Charity Dyck of Richfield, MN (on location)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Dyck

Charity, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story starts in 2009, attending makeup certification school at Faces ETC of MN located in Minneapolis. I knew makeup was my calling, and I’ve always wanted to work for myself, thus CD Makeup Artistry came to be! In the meantime I started working retail, with numerous brands, and gained hands on knowledge working with various skin types and really getting my hands on faces! Growing a connection with my clients became my strong suit, which truly helped my business grow. The weddings I worked on began to multiply! I was lucky to work on some exciting production projects, as well as bookings that required special effects makeup. My love for special effects and Halloween makeup started to become a strong suit for me, and besides weddings, has become one of my favorite creative outlets to be apart of.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m lucky to say, my journey has been mostly smooth. I think it really helps being incredibly type-A as a business owner.
I’ve been blessed to work with so many easy going, wonderful people. I think the toughest part of managing your own business, is in turn, managing yourself and just figuring out what works for you and your clientele. That being said, building a clientele is one of the tougher aspects of the business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance makeup artist who works on location, specializing in wedding/bridal and special effects makeup.
What sets me apart from others, is that I am someone you can really connect and feel comfortable with. I so enjoy working with and meeting new people. I truly love creating a look for my clients on one of the most significant days of their life, making them feel like the most beautiful versions of themselves.
What else sets me apart is that I am impeccably organized. I’ve heard horrible experiences of makeup artists canceling, arriving incredibly late or just creating a bad atmosphere. I’m proud to say I’ve never, in my almost 15 years, missed a wedding! I always walk away feeling confident that expectations have been exceeded. I am an obsessive perfectionist!
I have grown immensely proud of my out-of-the-box makeup. I think my work speaks for itself, and I enjoy being immersed in creativity and creating looks that sometimes blow even myself away.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like about our city, is the diverse people and locations I get to work with.
I must admit, what I like least about our city, though maybe comical, is finding city parking.
