“Burn the candles, use the china…”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! Owning your own business is never smooth, and a bit worrisome, especially when you are responsible for a consistent income and employees well-being. As I have grown as a CEO/Designer, and perhaps, aged, I have taken the Ted Lasso approach and tried to stop worrying so much, and “Believed”. Every August and December, I get a little nervous [these are slow times for me], and it never fails; September and January come, and new projects come along.

We work with large projects and really big decisions and transactions that take time. So, sometimes, you have a delay in a project and just have to be patient. There could be zoning issues, a change in floor plans, an illness, etc. I have always go back and “Believe” that the work will come in the way that it is supposed to…

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Renae Keller Interior Design?
We are a design studio that works with clients and their architects and builders in a collaborative way. We love working this way when designing a home for clients, and this is the only way we do it. We can’t imagine not being part of the process from beginning to end. Many of our projects take years to plan and then build. We are thoughtful and enjoy our clients and their entire, talented team. We want to provide exceptional service and put our best foot forward at all times. We design homes for the clients, and want them to feel like the clients, not us. We encourage the clients to give us as much information as possible at the beginning of the project. A great compliment for us, is when someone walks into the home and says it “feels” like the clients have always been there and the house doesn’t feel decorated. These are proud moments for our team, at RKID.

This leads to our mantra, “Burn the candles, use the china…” We are intentional in every selection we make for a home. We are knowledgeable [over 30 years’ experience in the field] and love to keep learning about new building techniques and keeping classic materials [they never tire or go out of style in my book] in use. We want dogs to have their spot to lie down, grandkids to have fun painting at Nana’s kitchen table, and a nice view of the garden on the 3 season porch come cocktail hour [and a place for your beverage to live]. We want our clients to have an amazing experience and trust our team to communicate their goals throughout the verbal and written process of interior design.

We love what we do, we want joy in our projects, and if there are bumps in the road, we can all work to be problem solvers and choose the right course of action.

We work not only in our beautiful state but also all over the United States. A project often starts with the need for improvement in a specific area of living. More space, a new appliance, better views, more storage, etc. We start designing on a piece of paper with sketches, images, and copious notes. We then have honest conversations about general budgets and your WHY. This is so important – we come back to this WHY when we are making large decisions and see if these decisions fit into the original WHY. The Project builds from there, and you end up at some point with a place called “home”.
