Meet Rachel Drewitz of Drew & Co. Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Drewitz

Hi Rachel , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I sort of fell into residential design. After finishing my Bachelors degree at the U of MN I didn’t think I would wind up working in interiors. I was burned out and I didn’t love the commercial side of design. I stepped away and pursued a creative Masters at King’s College in London. That year really re-invigorated my love and appreciation of design, being in a place where aesthetics bombard you every day, and being around people who are passionate about all mediums, whether it be fine-art, literature, fashion, or music. I learned a lot and it made me fall back in love with it. I returned stateside and my first job landed me at a small studio in Minneapolis. There, I was immediately thrown into the deep end – in the best way- my hands were in everything ; design, logistics, sourcing, budgeting. And with it a great working partnership blossomed and so did my love for residential design. I was trusted to do my job and be creative and that was really motivating to be able to push my boundaries. I spent just shy of a decade there until I decided to try it out on my own. In October of 2022, Drew & Co. Interiors was born.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Design is about more than making spaces look pretty. The process can be bumpy and often messy. It’s actually about fostering relationships and that can be a heavy load to carry somedays. Being a chronic people pleaser I want to make everyone happy, my clients, my vendors, my family. But sometimes you fall short. So you pick yourself up and try again and do better. You learn what works and what doesn’t. It’s about experimenting and constantly evolving and learning. Sometimes it feels stagnant creatively, so you have to seek out something that will inspire you and get you going again. There are a lot of ups and downs in this industry, and a lot of factors influence your success, happiness and stability. It comes with a lot of personal investment and emotion.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Drew & Co. Interiors ?
Drew & Co. Interiors is a residential interior design firm in Minneapolis. We service the entire country and beyond- we come to you. We primarily specialize in luxury homes, with a modern twist. Although, any look and style is achievable. It’s a fun challenge to push ourselves stylistically, and work with new vendors and materials. I think what I am most proud of, is working with longtime clients, being able to have their spaces evolve with through their stages of life. It’s always so rewarding when they come back for more.

We offer full service design working with builders and contractors on new builds, remodels, furnishings all the way down to selecting the last pillow and coffee table book.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking can be hard- its alway been a big challenge for me, as I am naturally introverted, which is hard to be in this “business of people”. My best advice is just make yourself do it. You will always be glad you did. You might meet a contact, a collaborator or even a seasoned designer who can just give you some advice or reassurance. It’s always nice to know that we are in the same boat together and others are often experiencing the same challenges in the market and with clients. It’s an awesome way to build those relationships with vendors and put a face to that email address and seek. new product sources. More often than not, I get more out of them than I expect. I opt to schedule a minimum of 2 events a month, whether a CEU or event at a showroom.
