Meet Jerome Evans of Minneapolis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerome Evans

Hi Jerome, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been failing up for years and show no signs of stopping! My name is Jerome Evans and I host the #1 rated television talk show (that has my name in the title) – Bottomless Coffee with Jerome. We air on channel MCN6 in the Twin Cities Metro Area and we’re currently developing our 3rd season of the show!

I like to say that getting Bottomless Coffee started took a lot of pique and a little bit of cheek. The show started in 2020 as a podcast. We began recording remotely during lockdown and the name is a nod to the fact that a lot of us in the non-essential worker community were showing up to Zoom meetings wearing dress shirts up top and not much on the bottom. See? Cheeky. But while people were drawn in by the tongue-in-cheek name, they stayed for the truly authentic conversations.

Bottomless Coffee is a show where people tell it like it is. We’re not here to debate whether or not racism, chauvinism, or homophobia are real – we’re here to talk about how people find success despite the obstacles that are put before them. Everybody’s got obstacles. We just want to talk about them and share stories about how we can all overcome them.

But the secret sauce is in our ability to laugh at all that we’ve been through and continue to overcome. That humor makes for a unique and enjoyable conversation with every guest. And then, of course, we isolate those funny moments and share them on the internet for marketing purposes.

Outside of Bottomless Coffee with Jerome, I’ve also maintain a blog and occasionally work as a local influencer. The blog and influencing helps me share the fun things that I get to do with the rest of the world!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth but it has been interesting! In the beginning we were definitely victims of our own enthusiasm. We launched our first episode without dedicated microphones, video cameras, or editing equipment. We committed to learning everything that we needed to know through trial and error and for the first several episodes the errors were on fully display. And we’re still learning! Sometimes we get it wrong or a joke doesn’t land and that’s just fine. The important thing is that we continue to learn, continue to grow, and continue to laugh.

We also ran into an interesting accessibility problem when we grew from a podcast to a television show. The populations that we’re focused on – people who traditionally aren’t represented in television – sometimes feel like they don’t belong on television! We’ve adapted to that problem by adding more flexibility to our programming. We now offer television, video podcast, traditional podcast, and written interviews as ways of meeting people where they are.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At the heart of things, I’m nosy. I want to know your entire life story and then I want to subject you to questions about everything you’ve ever done. Along the way, we’ll take a few breaks where I’ll tell you about a similar experience that’s happened to me and make a few observations that will make you laugh.

Bottomless Coffee with Jerome is a television show that I created to learn more about people. It airs on cable channel MCN6 in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. We specialize in elevating the stories of people who don’t traditionally get to tell their stories on television, over streaming services, or in written interviews.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Right now I’m very interested in humor so I’ve been studying works by David Sedaris, Jenny Lawson, and Joan Rivers.

I also really enjoy the idea of making celebrities cry on television so I’m also studying works by Oprah Winfrey.
