Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyah Mizer
Hi Keyah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started college a few years later than my peers, and I constantly reminded myself that it’s not a race; it’s a journey. I chose to attend the University of Minnesota, where I studied Business Development and Marketing. During my sophomore year, a modeling agency scouted me, and within a year, I had modeling contracts with Nike, Target, Elf Cosmetics, and several other brands. As my modeling career took off, I realized I needed a flexible work schedule because I was still a busy college student. That’s when I decided to launch my own Marketing Company during my senior year of college. Embracing the community, pushing my boundaries, and keeping an open mind have led me to these fantastic opportunities.
“I am a part of all that I have met” – from “Ulysses” by Tennyson.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacle in life has always been my self-doubt. I love the saying, “It’s worth a shot,” because it is always worth trying. As my career grew, I often felt scared of the unknown, but something about not knowing what happens next is exciting. Although there have been many hard days and even weeks, it feels like a win if I can address issues or problems kindly to myself. Managing clients, my personal life, friends, and family can be demanding, but I am always grateful to be in my position.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a commercial print fashion model and the owner of a marketing company called Mizer Media. Fashion modeling allows me to express a different side of myself. I thoroughly enjoy being on set and facing the camera. Mizer Media works with small Twin Cities businesses, ranging from Bloody Mary Mix to Home Remodeling companies. My role involves providing marketing support to my clients, and my objective is to raise awareness and showcase the uniqueness of my client’s brands. I take pride in the hard work and commitment required to be self-employed. While each day presents new challenges, I find connections between everything I do.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was young, I spent a lot of time performing for my friends and family and creating skits in front of my mirror. I had an imaginary show called “What’s Up with Keyah,” and I would have my neighborhood friends as guests on my show. I’ve always been outgoing, and it’s fun to think about my younger self and how proud she would be of me now.
