Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Lamoureux
Hi Daniel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Danny L’Amour – I’m a lifelong musician, producer and songwriter who grew up in north jersey dreaming of festival crowds and big stages. My music career started as a child singing in choir and I was fortunate to be raised in a musical family. I have played in many different music groups of varying genres which has defined my sound as a solo artist, pulling from influences like folk, alternative rock and EDM.
I live in Brooklyn with my dog playing acoustic gigs and DJing warehouse clubs. I was invited to perform and DJ a yoga event in Minneapolis by Greta Ertle and Rosie Jermakian, two close friends and collaborators of mine. They own a retreat company called Radiance Retreats and were hosting an event to promote their upcoming retreat in Joshua Tree. They are two of the most inspiring entrepreneurs that I know, and in collaboration with Rick Gmitro (MN-based multimedia extraordinaire), we were able to make the event a huge success!
My songs are a glimpse into my life, which is a privilege to share with you. I pull from a lot of different influences but some of my biggest are R.E.M. , Talking Heads and Benjamin Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service).
My debut album Love is Drugs + Love is War got over half a million streams and my follow up album is set to drop this fall! My next single “Pulling Straws” comes out on Sept 20th.
I’m a fully independent artist and the support and response I have received thus far has been incredibly motivating to keep pushing forward. I appreciate my friends, family and fans who I couldn’t do this without.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being fully independent is rewarding but comes with difficulty. I work a day job to fund my music project which sometimes entails working around the clock. Sourcing the right musicians for gigs, recordings, etc can be challenging as well, although being in NYC provides some great opportunities there.
The hardest challenge has been breaking through digitally to get some traction and traffic on my music – a few successful promotions helped to push through that and put my music on the map. I’ve been making and releasing my music for over a decade and have never had this kind of response before.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work a day job as a Digital product manager at a large financial institution – probably not what you imagine when you think “rockstar”! That day gig keeps the lights on, though. It pays for studio time and keeps food on my table, and allows me opportunities to travel and live a good life that inspires new music.
My job is a good fit for me because it allows me to build and deliver value to people – not so different than what I’m trying to do with my music. I would recommend any serious artist have a reliable source of income so that they can be consistent with their releasing music and producing content. It also takes the pressure off having to make money on the music right away, which allows me to be more artistic with the project overall.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My ability to connect with people is my superpower. I am able to do this through my music or even just through conversation. I love the truth of life and exploring shared experiences with others – this is what I’m trying to get at with my lyrics. I am also relentless about continuing on this path and I know it is my life work. Success will come not as a surprise but simply as a result of my talent, persistence and hard work.
