Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Gustafson
Hi Matt, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up on a farm in Gonvick, MN working with my hands a lot. I helped build the family home with my mom. She was the handy one of my parents. I got experience with all types of trades through relatives and family friends helping out with all sorts of farm projects. I moved down to the cities when I was 19 and helped my brother do some renovations and started working with him and other construction companies. I quickly learned after working for many companies that I was the guy doing all the work so I decided to venture out on my own as a subcontractor. I also found some success in flipping houses at that time. Over the years I grew a solid customer base through referrals and in the past year my business quadrupled so I brought on a project manager, marketing manager, book keeper and a team of reliable and quality subcontractors.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve experienced many struggles along the way. But I always say “if it were easy, everyone would do it.” I’ve chalked up my failures to valuable lessons worth learning. I know now never to have old drinking buddies work for me, a qualified team is paramount to a successful business.
