Life & Work with Naomi Beyene of Eagan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Beyene

Hi Naomi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story as an entrepreneur started when I was twelve helping my dad with every business he ever dabbled in, from restaurants to car dealerships, and most recently his transportation company. However, I yearned for something distinctly mine, a brand that reflected who I am. Thus, Kawaii Beauty was born amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, driven by my desire to control my financial destiny, independent of working for my dad or anyone else. Launching a beauty brand when everyone was keeping their distance might seem crazy, but it turned out to be the wisest move I’ve made. That initial year, client interactions were off the table, so I dedicated my time to perfecting my skills. I’m so thankful for social media because I was able to learn so much from other professionals in the beauty space. In turn, I went on to build a brand that empowered women by helping them feel their best. Inspired by the motto, “when you look good, you feel good and when you feel good, you do good”, I wanted to be an advocate by giving them the confidence to pursue their wildest dreams. The goal and ultimate purpose behind Kawaii Beauty is to leave every client better than I met them. Beyond beauty services, I achieve this by always being a listening ear, and giving valuable advice to each client during our beauty ‘therapy’ sessions. So they can leave with a clear mind and a confident mindset.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Currently, it definitely has been going smoothly, and I give all thanks to God! The first few years were tough though. I was drowning in repetition trying to perfect my craft, learning how to financially manage my business, while simultaneously trying to get clients in the door. I relocated to Houston and was working on getting an estheticians license. My first six months out there I couldn’t get a single client to book, and this pushed me to focus on effectively marketing myself and Kawaii. While down there, I attended a beauty school that was straight out of a nightmare, led by an instructor who didn’t value educating us. Instead she was focused on constantly scheming up ways to scam and degrade us. It was a rough journey, but through it all I understood that nothing has ever happened to me, but for me. Now that I’ve got the business in a flow state, I’m able to focus my energy on expansion and what that’ll look like for Kawaii.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I want everyone who may have previously had a bad experience finding a lash technician or makeup artist to know I have integrity in everything I do. I take my time doing lashes– customizing each set to enhance your features, properly isolating, and using quality products to eliminate irritation– while also providing a luxury experience. And the same goes for my makeup application. I carefully curate each and every makeup glam session for makeup that speaks volumes while comfortably sitting on the skin. Currently, I’m focused on expanding my education to become even better for my clients. I’m a firm believer in continuing education, so I plan on returning to school to get my cosmetology license as well as an instructors license.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’d be lying if I said anyone other than God first. My faith gives me the courage to pursue every goal I set, regardless of how hard it may seem to achieve. The answers to many of my questions are answered in my prayers, strengthening my moral compass while molding me into a person I can be proud of. Immediately afterward, I’d have to highlight my Dad for supporting me in everything I do. He engineered the entrepreneur in me and always gave me constructive criticism. He never wanted me to mirror him; he wanted me to be better by pushing me to learn from his mistakes. Last but certainly not least, I can’t thank my Kawaii girls enough for letting me live out my purpose by using them as my canvas and always supporting me!
