Daily Inspiration: Meet Lily Sargent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Sargent

Hi Lily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I graduated from high school, I felt an urge to buy a real camera and see what I could do with it. That’s when “Lily’s Frame Photography” was born in 2016. For the next year or so, I took pictures for some friends, but then I got really busy with college. I was touring with a band, which left me with little time for photography! After getting married + having babies, I couldn’t wait to pick up a camera again. When I was pregnant with my second baby, I needed to leave my job, so I was looking for an income source to support my family. I reached out to a friend who helped me get my hands on a camera, and I decided to relaunch my photography business. Renamed “Sargent Photography,” I began advertising for sessions in June 2024 and hoped for the best. To my surprise, I ended up completely booked for the first few months! It has been a lot of very late nights, trying to juggle a toddler and baby while launching a business.. but I’m so very grateful for the people who have supported me and helped me get started!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! It’s definitely been a learning curve trying to learn/manage business finances; figuring out how much to reinvest in the business, and how much to take home to support my kiddos. I’ve also spend a lot of late nights listening to podcasts, updating my website, creating marketing materials, learning social media strategies, doing online photography courses, and lots + lots of editing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently doing a variety of photography sessions, including newborns, families, seniors, weddings, branding, and more. I would love to delve deeper into the wedding industry!! I edit very true to color, with high contrast and a “clean” feel. I like very simple images and neutral colors. I think a big thing that sets me apart is also the way that I work with my clients! I work really hard to provide a comfortable environment, even for those who hate having their photos taken. I love to be your hype-girl behind the camera!!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband, Brady, has been the best supporter I could have asked for. I wouldn’t be able to do any of these sessions without his willingness to take care of our boys. He is a very involved dad, and I’m beyond grateful for that. He also helps set up my studio/pack my car, makes sure I have everything I need when I’m busy editing for long hours, and cheers me on when I’m nervous about a session.
Also a huge shoutout to my clients! You guys have been incredible.
