Today we’d like to introduce you to Winnie Patterson
Hi Winnie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I think my journey really began with my love and curiosity for fashion styling. Growing up, I was always creative, but I struggled with being painfully shy. Fashion became my outlet, a way to express myself without saying a word. Over a decade ago, while working at Nordstrom, I fell in love with styling customers and watching their outfits come together and their personality come alive. That’s when I decided to start my YouTube channel in 2011. I filmed my first video in a basement, with bad lighting and a cheap digital camera, sharing my outfit. At the time, I didn’t know who would watch it, but I uploaded anyway- without telling anyone, which helped me overcome my fears of putting myself out there.
Over time, my channel grew into a community of people who shared my love for fashion. Eventually, I branched out into beauty content, reviewing products and sharing my first impressions as well as tutorials. A few years later, I took a leap of faith and moved to Los Angeles for a fresh start and also see where this YouTube journey might take me. It was scary- moving to a new city where I knew no one- but I embraced the opportunity. Finding a job proved to be more difficult than I thought and it pushed me to keep creating content, and to my surprise, that’s what led me to become a full-time Content Creator for the next 10 years.
I had the chance to work with brands I admired and experience things I never thought possible. Looking back, it feels like I was living in a movie. After the pandemic hit, I took a step back from YouTube, feeling like it was time for a reset. Now, I’m focused on running my very own marketing agency, where I help businesses grow their social media presence. It’s rewarding to use everything I’ve learned to help others develop their brand and create content that resonates with their audience. I’m also the Chief Marketing Officer of Wyn Group, a Commercial Real Estate Brokerage here in Minnesota. In my spare time, I still create short-form content on my personal platforms, mostly as a creative outlet but I also continue to collaborate with brands and companies that I truly love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Social media is constantly evolving, which keeps me on my toes and always learning. But it’s not always easy to keep up, especially with how saturated the internet has become. With so much content being pushed out nonstop, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the flood of information and the pressure to constantly create just to stay relevant.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I took the lessons I learned from growing my own social media following and used them to build my marketing agency. Now, I help other brands and business owners strengthen their social media presence. I specialize in social media marketing, particularly for small businesses that may not have the time or resources to handle it all themselves. My goal is to create content that aligns with each brand’s message and helps them build a strong online presence.
What sets me apart is my hands-on experience as a creator. I understand the challenges of navigating social media from both a personal and business perspective. I’m proud of the impact I’ve had in helping businesses not only establish themselves but thrive in a space that can be intimidating.
