Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzy Pace
Hi Lizzy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I worked as a writers’ assistant & script coordinator in the writers’ room on a bunch of different half hour comedy tv shows. I ultimately ended up writing & producing the podcast for nbc’s The Good Place. My friend Chad Kultgen – whom I’d worked with on another show with – and I wanted to write a book about how we saw the tv show “The Bachelor” as a sport. We decided to start a hobby podcast to flesh out that book. During deep covid when all the film and television production was shut down, our podcast “Game of Roses” started to take off. We wrote & published the book “How To Win The Bachelor” and our devotion to analyzing reality tv as a sport has now happily taken over our lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. We were making the podcast for a year before turning a profit and the podcast industry is definitely still in its Wild West era.
Sometimes there are really difficult topics in the fandoms that are hard to cover.
Ultimately it’s been an incredible pivot for my own career and if podcasts had existed when I was 12 years old this would’ve been the career I’d chosen as my ultimate fantasy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a writer and a podcaster. I specialize in covering reality tv like a sport through my podcast Game of Roses (which I’m most known for) with my cohost Chad Kultgen. I also cover premium scripted tv through my other podcast HBOLAX with my cohost Katherine Dudas.
I’m most proud of publishing my book “How To Win The Bachelor” with my co author Chad Kultgen and of writing an episode of the NBC sitcom series THE GOOD PLACE (episode 406 – the one with the book event). I’m most passionate about good tv as it and podcasting are my favorite art forms.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Bringing my dog Luca Toni to the dog park, friendship, and popcorn make me happy.
