Meet Ember Williams of Willmar, MN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ember Williams

Hi Ember, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well hello there, my name is Ember Williams also known as Jade Avenue and It really all started in 2017 when I started developing my skills and immersing myself in the fine arts programs. When I entered 10th grade that year that’s when I first joined the dance program in Benson, Mn which was a predominantly caucasian school and where sometimes I’ll literally be the only black student in the room and even in dance class being the only black student and also being apart of the lgbtq+ community it was a big struggle when we had recitals, or when I was in the choir, one act play, and even the musicals. Cause both of those things brought alot of eyes and attention my way good or bad even some that’ll judge but I could say It brought me many opportunities to finally do what I wanted to do and kinda brought me to where I am today doing music as an artist myself and mainly dance videos and making tutorials actually using the techniques and different dance styles I’ve learned to do choreography from music videos, dance challenges and so much more.

My journey of being a creative has always been apart of me since I was young, I am huge lover of music and anytime I would hear something and really listen to how the song was made like the beat, different instruments, and the feeling of the song. I always had that sudden itch to where I would just kinda freely move my body to songs and that’s when I discovered my love for dance and also music.

It allowed me to remove all the stress and anxiety I had from anything in my life weather that was school or at home issues, and it really made me feel like it was a way I can bring my performer side out and let go and allow my dancing to express how I really feel or wanted to showcase to the world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh it has not been an easy path at all and I don’t think anything ever is when you working to achieve something and I’ll the biggest struggle I would say I have is usually me and how much I overthink and when I would get bullied for just being me it would always affect me pretty bad and made me feel like I had to hide myself and my gifts cause of the way some people may react but I had to stop doing that to myself and letting my love for the arts shine through no matter what anyone says. And due to me kinda having a perfectionist mindset I always need to get it right, like I’ll do so many dance takes of just one dance out of the many I had learned thinking it’s never good enough. I slowly started thinking differently and just going back to why I’m originally doing these videos so I can start doing my own classes in dance studios or traveling on tour with my favorite artists. As long as I remember those goals and dreams I have, I start to fall back and focus on just doing it and not overthinking every single thing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an artist & choreographer that specializes in singing and dancing. I’m more well known for my dancing skills as I have started more recently gaining more followers and traction to my page for my recent dance videos and tutorials. Which my recent dade county dreaming tutorial for Camila Cabello song has been going over well with my people over on TikTok who follow or just finding me enjoying how I went over every detail with them and doing it in three different ways so they can really get the steps down. I also first started doing music in 2020 for my debut single “Disappear” which I infused my favorite elements of music as I first fell in love with the genre pop I wanted to embody that on the track and also add my own little spin on some of the verses like rapping a bit. I went on to release three other singles during those years up to 2022. Currently in the process of making my new music which will all lead to my first ever EP so I’m very excited about that.

The one thing I’m most proud of is actually just taking the chance to put myself out there into the world and being authentically me. It has brought me so opportunities which one I was very excited and proud of was to audition for a new show that was coming out on Amazon prime for a cheer show. I went through the whole audition process and gave me new skills of how to do things and actually be picked for something that can actually change my life. I didn’t get in but I’m still proud and grateful for that and how it molded me to what I’m doing today.

What sets me apart is how much I want this, everyone has different drives and motivations but I want to be remembered once I leave this earth and that’s the thing that keeps me going.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I surely do have some advice for people just starting out putting their craft and passions out there into the world, the one thing I can say is to always be uniquely you. Don’t try to fit into certain categories or genres cause that’s the thing that’s popping or trending. Or you feel that your body of work won’t get as much attention. Who cares! The people that vibe and truly understand your work will follow you through out your journey and you will see all that hard work pay off. Always be true to yourself

I feel that’s what I was missing when I first started out. I never felt like I could truly do what I wanted or it’ll be deemed too flamboyant or I’ll get the wrong attention from it. When I’m just doing me, it’s powerful once you let go of that feeling of always trying to impress other people or following certain things to fit in.
