Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am the owner of a multi-state law practice only serving healthcare businesses. I actually envisioned myself as a doctor when I was young but I nearly pass out when I get a shot or see blood (how I have so many tattoos is beyond me.) I opened a law firm serving healthcare businesses to make an impact on the broken US healthcare system. I believe the politics of healthcare is getting us nowhere, but having more small healthcare businesses (that know and care about their patients) will benefit and impact the US healthcare system.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a business is not easy. I see myself more as a business owner now than a lawyer. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is how to grow my business in a smart and strategic manner. The industry is fiercely competitive with many legal and ethical traps. It is not easy to do without a clear vision of where you are going. One lesson I’ve learned related to that challenge is that you actually have to draw out your vision and plan for what you want to be and how to get there. When I initially started my business my goal was just to survive! I had no plan except a vague idea of how I might make money. That has completely shifted into having a Vivid Vision with smart goals and key metrics to showcase exactly where we are going and how to get there.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are the law firm built for healthcare businesses. We are an extremely entrepreneurial law firm. We are tech forward and integrate AI, advanced software tools and smart use of virtual assistants to provide great value to clients. We also do not bill hourly and only have refundable flat fees. This is still a novel idea for many attorneys.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes – the pandemic taught our firm that we can go all-in on remote work and technology to enable legal services remotely. It also taught us that the world of employment law and contract work has changed dramatically in the last few years, especially with the broad expansion of telehealth services – and we have kept pace as an innovative law firm.
