Today we’d like to introduce you to Daryl Morrison
Hi Daryl, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a self taught Automobile/Motorcycle Illustrator that worked exclusively with an 0.5 mechanical pencil and premium color Pencils. I have been illustrating for about 30 years. Attention to details is essential to meet my objectives; realism.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I initially realized the quality of my work, I thought, this is nice but how can I make money from this? After much thought I mustered the desire and courage to illustrate clients vehicles. This proved to be quite challenging.

What sets me apart from other Automotive Illustrators is my exclusive use of an 0.5 mechanical pencil. My ability to go from light to dark is achieved with standard lead. There is no 2B, 3B, 4B ect….. exchange of lead. Shading (light to dark) is accomplished with one gradient of lead. Graphite affords me the ability to manipulate contrast. My shading technique is what attributes to the renderings level of realism. The desired effect is produced by direct and controlled application of graphite.
