Today we’d like to introduce you to TellyGP
Hi TellyGP, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born originally in Illinois, as a kid it was poverty, instability and being place to place mostly. I moved to Minnesota around 7 years before I started elementary school in a place called Louisiana courts where we stayed with family members before we had our own place. We had our own apartment for a couple years then the family was split again, a friend of mine I had went to school with family took me in (The Jones Family) treated me like more than family and so I could stay in the district of the school my friends went to. That lasted until late 6th grade moving into the summer, I was reunited with my mother living with another family member until we got our apartment over north Minneapolis we would eventually live in for another couple years I did my Jr high school years over north and by time Highschool came around by 9th grade we had moved to a duplex over south Minneapolis that we stayed in for the rest of my highschool career, homecoming prom graduation etc. I stayed and graduated from the same school district and was even in the newspaper about my life story when I graduated in 2015, a accomplishment I can appreciate knowing I spoke about what’s it was like to be someone like me and spoke up for others who didn’t have a voice at my ceremony, me and infront 4 other “beat the odds” award recipients and 400 others. 5 of us won the award out of 100 honestly so you know our stories would have had to be compelling. After graduation I was in college for a couple months but ending up dropping out due to personal circumstances, that would leave me to get a real job, I had been working since 15. I’ve done 4 years of summer internships to start off my work history and I gained a lot of knowledge within the programs, my mother providing the knowledge of step up Minneapolis, age wise it ended at 19 but it got me out my comfort zone early on and enabled me to work for it, whatever you want can be obtained as long as you willing to work. So that’s what I’ve been doing at this point in my life, working for my dreams- working for the moments-enjoying life more and thinking of a brighter future, the sun still gone shine and you only see the beauty of it when you been through the rain, I walk with grace and determination in whatever the task is that day, that way you won’t live in regret when it’s said and done. I found peace through art, found peace through loneliness, through emotion and expression. I’ve been the one depressed, looking for a hero, waiting on someone to be there then I had to look in the mirror and take the time to understand it’s only me versus me. Music is my outlet and my sound is different and so I’ve heard, I keep it forever groovy for Noah my childhood friend and keep it mind, I grew up off that old school r&b so you can bet it’s only classic vibes. Too.evolve.learn.lessons.young.grow&prosper- TellyGP been recording since I was 15 and developed my sound within my own story, to be my therapy and hopefully help other in the process. What I’ve learned is life isn’t complete and truly felt without the help of others so I tend to find that inspiration through creation and then even you get to watch the manifestation..
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Trauma
Poverty
No resources
No inheritance
Wrong teachings
Self sabotage
Overthinking
Mental health issues
Depression
PTSD
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
TellyGP is a groovy artist who mixes harmony with hip hop rap, within sonic production- he is able to create that forever groovy vibe in the honor of his childhood friend who passed away, TellyGP grew up on Old School R&B, neo-soul, jazz, funk and hip hop as he creates that feeling that is forever classic, derived from not forcing you can listen and get some kind of benefit from the groovy sounds and vibes. Using his voice as an instrument in hopes the music is able to transcend and become worldwide, doing the work to touch the ears of the masses! Representing “broken homez” (BHZ) which is felt worldwide, from being inspired to inspiring is the main mission of vision to accomplish. “I’m not saying I’ll change the world, but I guarantee I’ll spark the brain that will change the world”
– Tupac Shakur
The Prolific Mind is what sets me apart.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I want the music I create to be around forever, so it’s forever groovy. In the next 25-50 years where will music be? I want to be the one that helps it be forever cherished like it should be and like where it started, wether it’s hip hop, country, rock, funk, jazz, soul or rhythm and blues, it all matters because music is the great unifier and the universe wouldn’t be the same without it.
