Today we’d like to introduce you to Edie Loy
Hi Edie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my career at 30, but hair has always been in my path. It was never a question of if I would start my career in it, but when. Growing up, I watched and learned from my mother, a ‘Beauty Operator’ for over 40 years, whose in-home studio was always at my fingertips.
After high school, I studied graphic design and had a short career in it. Then onto becoming a Framework Carpenter. However, a layoff in 2012 became the turning point that led me to beauty school. From the moment I stepped into my class, I knew it was meant to be.
One of my early milestones was Wella Educators visiting Nova. I was chosen to compete in the Wella Avant-Garde competition in Minneapolis, where I placed second, creating a full look—hair, makeup, and styling. The support from the owners and the Nova community made this moment even more special, and it also landed me a feature in Modern Salon Magazine.
After graduation, I furthered my education at Rocco’s in St. Paul, specializing in hair cutting, attending school five days a week. Towards the end of my training, I realized I was missing the coloring process, which led me to explore new opportunities. I worked in a few small local salons before finding my breakthrough—opening my own salon, E. Loy & Parlour, within Sola Salons. Bringing my vision to life was an unforgettable achievement.
Following the isolation of COVID, I felt disconnected and uninspired. That’s when a good friend from junior high school, who had opened her own salon, invited me to join as a booth renter. Within 20 minutes of visiting, I knew I had found what I was missing: a salon filled with incredible women. It’s by far the best salon I’ve ever worked in, and it has reignited my passion for the industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“In this industry, the road hasn’t always been smooth. I’ve faced my share of challenges, but not once have I considered giving up on my career. Instead, I’ve moved forward with gratitude and resilience. To anyone new to this profession: always remember, you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you.”

.I love being with my clients. They completely make my day of work so fun!
I’d say I’m known for being a skilled stylist, a creative visionary, and a dedicated mentor to others in the beauty community. My career reflects not only your technical expertise but also your passion for creating an empowering, supportive environment for clients and fellow stylists alike.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I find so much joy in helping my Rochester community by providing haircuts to people in need, regardless of age. There’s nothing more rewarding than earning someone’s trust and offering compassion when they need it most. It’s a small act that can make a big difference.
