Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Koethe
Maggie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always knew I wanted to go into healthcare in some capacity with a focus on athletes and getting people back to the activities they love doing. I played hockey growing up and that extended into a college career at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where I also completed my bachelor’s degree with a biology and chemistry focus.
During my last couple years of undergrad I was looking into options for grad school where I could work with people and help get them back to where they wanted to be in order to do the activities they want and sometimes even need to do. I shadowed the teams clinic at Northwestern Health Sciences University and saw how a chiropractor had a broader range of practice than just adjusting people. They were a part of the entire injury care process from the start and through the rehab process as well and I knew I had found my fit.
I went to Northwestern Health Sciences University where I obtained my doctorate of chiropractic with a sports emphasis. There, I was able to work with athletes of all different abilities and sports and was able to really learn how to build a rehab exercise program to help people get out of pain and empower them to stay out of pain with the tools we could give them.
I am now working in Excelsior and see athletes of all kinds because everyone is an athlete in their own way (if you sit in a chair everyday, you’re squatting, so you are an athlete). I have been working for the past two years and am so thankful to have found this career where I can collaborate with my patients and find a plan that is tailored to them and works for them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the grand scheme of things, it has been a really awesome challenge taking on building a business in the way that I have right out of school. Building any kind of business is always going to have its share of hardships but being able to see organic growth and see the progress my patients are able to make everyday makes all of it so worth it. I feel really grateful for the set up that I do have being in a collaborative space, I am surrounded by other providers and providers who have been working much longer than I have and who have their own practices they have built up, so when struggles do come up I have a really solid group of people I can talk it through with which has made it that much easier for me and I am so grateful to have them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Nordic Rehab and Chiro is a chiropractic practice. We specialize in soft tissue work (manual therapies, instrument assisted soft tissue modalities, cupping, manual release technique), adjusting when needed, and corrective/rehab exercises.
The tailored approach sets us apart from other places. Each patient is going to be completely different even if the “diagnosis” is the same, the goals are going to be different from person to person, so we take into account what does each patient WANT and NEED and build their plan around that to get them back to doing what they love whether that be playing professional sports or just picking their kids up off of the ground when they need to.
I am proud of the time we take with each of our patients. Most visits are 30 minutes or longer and this gives us a lot of time to find the root cause of what’s going on and getting to know the “why” behind what is going on. It once again, allows us to be a bit more tailored to each person and their needs.
