Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlynn Haugen
Hi Kaitlynn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! My name’s Kaitlynn. I’ve been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. Theres a video of me from when I was almost 2, and my parents were trying to film a video about the last night before my brothers were born. The entire video ended up being just my parents telling me to stop touching the camera. Since then, I moved on to kodak disposables before my mom got sick of spending money on them and got me a cheap camera. From there, I got my first DSLR and began to take classes, and the rest is history! I’ve had the honor of being able to do this professionally for about 2 years now, which is an insane blessing from the Lord.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! I went through a long period where I didn’t know what I wanted to pursue professionally, especially during the college years. I actually have a double major in psychology and criminal justice. I honestly thought photography would be a side hobby instead of my career! From there I actually got a job working at a church, which is honestly what helped my career grow the most. I was (and still am) on the church media team, which meant I was working with professional photographers and videographers almost every week. They helped encourage me to take the leap to do this full time!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in weddings, seniors, and family photography! If I have to pick a favorite, I would say couples are my favorite because its such a unique dynamic. I’m most proud of capturing special moments for the ones I love. This year, I’ve had the honor to do maternity sessions for 3 of my closest friends, as well as one of their newborn sessions! I also had the honor to do my sister’s couple photos with the first man that’s ever really captured her heart.
One thing that is so unique to photography is that every photographer is different. Our photos are a direct reflection of our personality and who we are. For me personally, my photos are warm, bright, and joyful!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The number one thing that makes me happy is the joy of the Lord. Knowing that I am using the gifts He’s given me to help his creation see how beautifully and wonderfully made they are truly makes my heart swell. Beyond that, my husband brings so much joy to my heart, as well as my sweet dog Rex!
