Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Serrano
Hi Oscar, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always had a passion for all types of music and loved attending weddings to see how much joy a DJ brings to the event. During the pandemic, my future sister-in-law was having a backyard wedding. She was looking for a DJ, and I thought to myself, ‘This would be a great opportunity for me to start DJing.’ I DJ’d her wedding, spinning a mix of classic love songs and modern hits, and really enjoyed the experience of bringing joy to a couple’s special wedding day.
Fast Forward a few months later – I attended a friend’s wedding at Green Acres Farm in Eden Prairie. As a new DJ in the industry, I introduced myself to DJ Greg Ellis, who was the DJ for the evening. I asked DJ Greg if it would be possible for me to shadow him at future events to gain experience and confidence as a wedding DJ/MC. DJ Greg’s mentorship has been invaluable in shaping my career and has played a significant role in building my brand as Serrano Sound & Entertainment.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every wedding/event has its own set of challenges. There are times when wedding timelines are running behind, and as DJs, we need to be adaptable and make adjustments on the fly. Weather can also throw a wrench in our setup the day of, and we may have to relocate if necessary. One of the most significant challenges I faced early in my DJ career was learning how to read the dancefloor and not just focus on the next song I was going to play. With a variety of ages at weddings, we have to cater to all age groups. I strive to ensure that everyone, from the great-uncles to the younger generations of cousins, has a great time. By closely monitoring the dance floor, knowing when to switch genres, and not sticking to one style, we can keep the dancefloor full and the party buzzing with excitement and energy.

Serrano Sound & Entertainment is a bilingual (Spanish/English) DJ service that supports the Twin Cities and the Western Wisconsin area. We specialize in DJ Entertainment for weddings and private events. I (DJ Oscar Serrano) am not just a ‘Push Play’ DJ that plays the entirety of songs at events. I like to mix and match melodies to ensure smooth transitions and keep the dancefloor partying. My style of DJing involves unique mashups, wordplays, and quick transitions from song to song, all with a personal touch. Also, being a first generation from Mexico, I like to put a Latin twist on my sets as well.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
As a DJ, our goal is clear-to give our clients 110% of our energy at every event. We need to be ready to bring the party to every event, from the first to the last. It’s not just about the first event of the season, but about maintaining that high-energy atmosphere throughout.
