Life & Work with Lisa Harris of Eden Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Harris

Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my career years ago as a makeup artist, which sparked my interest in permanent makeup. I initially specialized in powder brows and lip blush. Over time, clients started requesting tiny tattoos from me because I was already skilled with delicate needlework. At first, I was hesitant, but my curiosity led me to explore it further. Eventually, I discovered a real passion for tattooing and decided to take it seriously. Three years later, I now specialize in small, minimalist tattoos.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning fineline small tattoos comes with a unique set of challenges. I had no mentor to help me, as I was one of the very few artists who offered this service in Minnesota when I started. Technical skills are the foundation of this style of tattooing, along with precision. Learning how to troubleshoot my errors myself felt impossible. There was a lot of times I wanted to give up. The slightest mistake can stand out on such small, delicate designs. Mastering the use of fine needles requires a steady hand, immense patience, and a deep understanding of skin types and how they react to ink. This comes with time as you tattoo more often and more people. On top of that, I struggled with confidence in the beginning because it was very much a self-taught journey for me, and I found myself questioning my knowledge at times. Thankfully, I didn’t give up and overcame these worries because I love what I do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the owner and artist of Art Haus. I specialize in small, minimalist tattoos. I am most known for my thin lines and delicate work. People come see me for scripts and small dainty tattoos. I am most proud of the way I stayed consistent and dedicated to my craft, even on days I felt discouraged and frustrated because it allowed me to create a successful business in a short amount of time, offering one specialized service. What sets me apart from others is my style of tattooing. Today, there are now several artists in my area of who offer small “fineline” tattoos, but they tend to use a thicker needle than mine because it is easier to learn but for myself, I believe in staying true to my niche of using very delicate needles in order to provide high quality, small tattoos that will sustain over time.

How do you define success?
Success, to me, is living in alignment with your purpose and values while continuing to grow and evolve. Success is not measured by achievements or material gains but by the fulfillment you feel, the positive impact you make, and the resilience you build along the way while thriving in your passions.
