Fae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The journey to creating Hair by Fae began with a Barbie head and a hair kit. From a young age, I knew I had a passion for self-expression through beauty. I was always experimenting with extensions, adding highlights, teasing my hair to crazy heights, and perfecting my curls—it’s something I’ve been doing for as long as I can remember. As time went on, that love for beautifying myself naturally grew into a desire to help others feel beautiful too. Choosing to attend cosmetology school was a no-brainer. Hairdressers embodied everything I aspired to be: authentic, artistic, flexible, and most importantly, dedicated to serving others.
After graduating, I dove into the small business world in my home state, where I began building my career. Recently, I made the move to Minnesota, where I’ve had the privilege of joining Gem Salon + Spa. Here, I specialize in creating natural, effortless, and detailed hair looks, along with expert extensions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to becoming a cosmetologist is both rewarding and challenging. It requires a deep passion—not only for yourself but, more importantly, for others. Early on, I faced a setback when I left my first beauty school after being told I wasn’t cut out for the profession and lacked the mental capacity to succeed as a cosmetologist. Thankfully, I had enough faith in myself to ignore those doubts. I returned to school, persevered, and graduated. Going back opened doors to countless opportunities to continue pursuing my passion where I was reminded that this is exactly where I needed to be.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a true passion for coloring hair. My most notable skills lie within the world of blonding. Whether it’s a few foils or a full head of them, I love creating natural, effortless, brilliant hair. I find joy in both the artistry and the precision required for these looks. In addition to coloring, I specialize in hair extensions. I take great pride in creating extensions that blend seamlessly with a client’s natural hair, all while ensuring their own hair remains healthy and thrives.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was magnetic, full of energy, and always eager to learn. I loved diving into new interests and exploring my creative side. Whether I was playing dress-up, singing, or dancing, I was always open to new experiences and had a bit of a dreamer’s spirit. But despite my inner dancing diva, I also cherished time spent outdoors on my parents’ land, where I felt grounded and connected to nature. Personality-wise, I was confident and independent, but I also had a deep bond with my family and the natural world. I thrived in environments where I felt supported, trusted, and encouraged to follow my passions. That nurturing foundation gave me the freedom to be both adventurous and wise.
