Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Bohanan
Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My parents were both musicians, so growing up I was surrounded by music. My family traveled quite a lot, and when I moved back to the states I started a career in music. I did a lot of open mics in NYC and started a few bands out there. When the pandemic hit, my partner and I moved to the Twin Cities and I started working with some event bands out here. Then last year I was on The Voice which boosted my profile significantly.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been pretty hard. I was building a pretty good foundation out in nyc. Then I had to move to a whole new two and start from scratch. It was tough. Also, we moved at the height of the pandemic so I couldn’t meet many other musicians. I still actually don’t know as many people as I’d like. But I’m gradually meeting more people and becoming more active in the community.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a musician. I play and write sort of funky soulful music. I love to really get either really deep or really nerdy. So my focus is kind of everywhere lyrically. I think I’m different from most musicians around because I’ve experienced a lot of the world. I’ve traveled all over, and I’m culturally diverse which has given me a unique perspective. I’m really proud of the work I’ve been doing recently. I’m starting my solo career and it’s taken me out of my comfort zone, which I love. I was also a semifinalist on The Voice.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is getting to a point where you’re not fighting for your ability to work. There are a lot of musicians out there and they’re all trying to carve out a piece of the city for themselves. To me being successful is being in the top tier of people’s call list. To me being successful is playing a sold out show.
