Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Albee
Hi Ruth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, we are Austin and Ruth, owners of the Honeycomb Cottage MN.
We became interested in bee therapy and alternative wellness practices after learning about and healing our bodies with Functional Patterns. Functional Patterns promotes optimal movement, a connection with nature, human biology as well as seasonal living and eating practices. One of the protocols Functional Patterns advocates for is grounding, connecting to earths surfaces via grass, trees, dirt etc. Learning more about earthing/grounding led quickly to discovering that bees vibrate at THE SAME frequency as the earth also known as the Schumann resonance. Austin, suffering from an autoimmune condition was always looking for ways to shift into a rest and digest state as well as benefit his heart issues. This led to us reaching out to Mike at Bone Lake Meadows to come run some bees on our land. He immediately put apitherapy / bee therapy on our radar after an experience he had in Romania. After learning about his experience, we were hooked! Not only could we enjoy the benefits of eating local honey to help alleviate allergy symptoms as well as put our bodies in line with the natural seasons and align our circadian rhythm, but we could actively lie on top of the bees?! We enlisted family members and got to work constructing the Honeycomb Cottage. Our second season of being able to offer this experience to the public will begin this Spring!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were a myriad of obstacles in constructing the Honeycomb Cottage. Since this is only the 4th bee therapy center like this in the United States, there was a lot of nuance to the building process. Getting the capital to spend on construction, figuring out how to make sure it was sealed and safe so there was almost NO WAY the bees could get inside.
Scheduling with Mike to service the bees so they don’t die of virroa mites,
Educating the general public on how this form of bee therapy really is relaxing and beneficial. Struggles with servicing software, struggles with marketing and spreading the word.
Offering trades with other social media influencers to do a free session and promote us on their socials and having them not hold up their side of the bargain. Dealing with general fear and paranoia around people’s past trauma with bees. Having people be concerned about getting stung, allergies. Having people not willing to try it or sign up. Struggles with overall marketing and exposure.
We’ve been impressed with Honeycomb Cottage Mn , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Apitherapy/ Bee therapy center in Stillwater Minnesota
We are only the 4th location that offers apitherapy in the United States.
Category: alternative healing, frequency and energy healing, once in a lifetime opportunities, things to do in Stillwater MN.
Apitherapy is prescribed by doctors in other parts of the world for conditions such as asthma, COPD, PTSD, allergies, anxiety and other respiratory problems.
What does success mean to you?
Success to us would be to have a consistent seasonal supply of clients/ people paying to do bee therapy on a regular basis. It would look like the Honeycomb Cottage growing and becoming well known in the Stillwater/marine community and maybe even the twin cities metro at large! This would involve education and a deeper understanding of nature and the bees themselves. I think people eventually won’t be so intimidated when they hear the term bee therapy (once they understand what it is) and that practically it’s really just taking a nap, reading a book, chatting with a friend inside the Honeycomb Cottage while enjoying and being lulled into a relaxing state by the soothing hum and vibration of the bees doing their foraging work.
We would also like to partner with other folks to hold sessions of their work in the Honeycomb Cottage. For example people who teach music lessons, vocal lessons, forest bathing, massage therapy, talk therapy, energy healing, spinal flow etc. Not only to provide a more natural learning and healing space but proving opportunities for other people promoting health to spread their knowledge base as well as another revenue stream for us. So success would be having a few alternative healing practitioners like that running sessions as well as individual and group sessions going all year round.
