Inspiring Conversations with Erin Barr of Hour Rose Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Barr

Hi Erin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
With over 22 years of experience, Erin’s philosophy is simple: enhance your natural beauty with expert techniques that make you look and feel your most elegant self. In 2021, Erin expanded Hour Rose Salon to a second location in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she now resides.

My professional journey began at Aveda’s headquarters in Minneapolis, where I honed my skills before moving to New York City. There, I trained alongside some of the industry’s top stylists, mastering advanced techniques in cutting, coloring, and extensions. My commitment to education extends beyond personal growth; I provide mentorship and training for stylists in both Hour Rose locations, ensuring that every client benefits from innovative techniques and dedication to excellence.

Whether you’re searching for the best haircut in Minneapolis, the best salon in New York, or specialists in hair extensions or coloring, Hour Rose Salon is here to exceed your expectations. Our team prioritizes kindness, care, and attention to detail, creating a relaxing and empowering experience for every client.

Let us transform your hair into a masterpiece that celebrates you at our New York City or Minneapolis location. Hour Rose Salon isn’t just where beautiful hair lives—it’s where your confidence and individuality shine.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With years of experience, I can now look back and reflect on my journey and see how it all came together. I truly believe there’s a point in life where every step—every challenge—leads you to exactly where you’re meant to be. But that doesn’t mean the road has always been smooth.

My journey started with hard work and perseverance. I assisted for three years before my boss, Eva Scrivo, took a chance on me. Eva was a huge mentor in my life. At the time, she was well-known as Martha Stewart’s hairstylist, but she was much more than a talented stylist—she was also a sharp and savvy businesswoman. Watching her balance both the creative and entrepreneurial sides of the industry was inspiring, and I knew early on that I had a knack for the business side, too.

New York City is where I trained and spent most of my career. The city’s fast-paced energy is no joke—it pushes you to your limits and forces you to hustle every single day. It was demanding, but I’m so grateful for that experience. It taught me resilience, discipline, and how to thrive under pressure.

Those early years of hard work, learning from mentors, and navigating challenges helped shape who I am today as a salon owner. The road wasn’t always easy, but every bump along the way taught me something valuable—and I wouldn’t trade those lessons for anything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Hour Rose Salon was founded in the chic and charming Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg, and was established in 2017 by Owner and Master Stylist, Erin Barr. Her vision and technique as a hair stylist, after analyzing each individual’s hair, is to take what nature has given you, and elaborate on your qualities, to create your most beautiful, elegant self. In 2021, Erin expanded her salon to a second location in Minneapolis, MN.

Haircuts, Color, Balayage, and more…Passion and creativity are what motivate us, and precision and attention to detail is something that you can be sure of here at Hour Rose Salon. We believe in kindness and care toward you and your hair, and look forward to giving just that back to you and the community.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always the creative one in my family. While most of my relatives didn’t have much of a creative streak, my dad was the exception—he had a natural artistic side, which I think I inherited. I gravitated toward the arts from a young age. Whether it was jazz band, choir, dance, acting, or even a jewelry-making class, I was always drawn to creative expression. If it involved imagination and hands-on creativity, I was all in.

That said, my mother was the opposite in some ways. She was a businesswoman through and through, and watching her work hard and navigate her career had a profound impact on me. Even as I explored my artistic side, I couldn’t help but notice how driven and focused she was. It showed me that creativity and business don’t have to exist in separate worlds—they can complement each other.

Looking back, those two influences—my dad’s creativity and my mom’s work ethic—helped shape who I am today. They taught me how to balance passion and purpose, which has been a huge part of my journey as both a stylist and a business owner.
