Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Brown.
Hi Tanya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I founded Vibrant Life Therapy in 2020 because I saw a need for something different in the mental health field—an inclusive space where both clients and providers could feel truly seen and valued. Having worked in the field for many years, I struggled to find a workplace that embraced authenticity and diversity in a meaningful way. As someone who identifies as bi-racial and queer, I understood firsthand how important it is to have a space where people with similar identities can feel understood and supported.
From the beginning, I wanted to create more than just a clinic—I wanted to build a community where people could bring their whole selves to the table, free from judgment or pretense. I also firmly believe that exceptional client care starts with therapists who feel valued, respected, and appreciated. With these principles at the heart of Vibrant Life Therapy, the business began to grow. Providers started reaching out, drawn to the idea of working in a place that felt truly inclusive and different from what many mental health clinics offer today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve always felt guided and supported in my goals. Each step of the way, I’ve been able to set clear intentions for myself and the business—and work steadily toward achieving them. I attribute our success to staying true to my core values of integrity and transparency, but also to the incredible team of providers who have joined me on this journey. Their passion, dedication, and shared vision have been instrumental in shaping Vibrant Life Therapy into what it is today.
As a group, some of our biggest challenges have been systemic, such as navigating the complexities of the insurance industry in our efforts to make care accessible to as many people as possible. Most recently, we faced the need to transition from operating with 100% independent contractors to a mixed model of contractors and employees. This was a significant shift for both myself and the business, bringing its own set of challenges. However, I firmly believe it’s a positive next step for our team—one that positions us to better support our providers and continue delivering high-quality, inclusive care to our clients.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was known for being easygoing, friendly, and ambitious. My teachers often described me as “smart but talks a lot,” which still holds true today! One of the things I love most about being a therapist is building meaningful relationships with others. While I’ve learned to listen more than talk over the years, connecting with people is something that truly fills my cup. From an early age, I also had a natural inclination for conflict resolution and communication. Growing up in a sometimes tumultuous household, I often found myself stepping into the role of mediator, which shaped my ability to navigate complex emotions and situations.
As a child, I had a deep love for animals and exploring the outdoors. I especially enjoyed any activity that involved water, whether it was swimming, tubing, or just being near a lake or river—a love that’s still very much part of who I am today. When I wasn’t outside with friends or at school, you could usually find me curled up in my “reading nook” with a good book, completely lost in a story.
