Inspiring Conversations with Chrystina Hakam of Creative and Unusual Everyday

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrystina Hakam

Hi Chrystina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Wow, many twists and turns got me to where I am today. Many years were spent thinking I needed to pick and become one thing. So, for a while, I had one career, with an itch… and lots of certifications. It may have been through my Life Coach training with Martha Beck. reading Barbara Sher’s Refuse to Choose, using Feng Shui on my own space and life, working with my own coach, or signing up for a pottery class, that I started to break free, and come into the fullness of who I am. Eventually, I accepted that I just do lots of things, and that’s my super power! I’m a Multipotentialite. (Yes, that’s a thing.)

Following my intuition, learning about something that caught my attention—and made me excited, saying yes to my internal nudges, that’s what got me here. The list of things I’ve explored, learned, and tried is too long to list here. I’ll just say, all of it contributes to the way I coach, consult on Feng Shui, create art, or style a photo.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The main challenge to getting where I am now, was believing societal ideas of how a career/successful life should look, and doubting my own instincts. Basically my own thoughts! Coaching helped with that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The focus of my business is on supporting people in living a fulfilling and authentic life—using all the tools that I have. This support may come in the form of Life Coaching, a Feng Shui consultation of the home or office, a Five Elements session, Art-making, or through Yoga and Sound Healing. What sets me apart is my knowledge of a variety of modalities, my own life as a demonstration of these practices, and knowing the power of moving one small step at a time.

This past December I self-published a deck of cards titled Elemental Values. I combined my knowledge of Coaching and The Five Elements of Feng Shui to create a tool for exploring personal values. Knowing what you value is an important first step in creating a fulfilling life. Especially important in these times. The cards can be purchased through me, or at The Future, a shop in Minneapolis. I also create ceramic brushes made with horsehair and goat hair which can be used for just about anything, even calming the nervous system. These can also be purchased through me.

I am a Multipotentialite through and through, interested in shamelessly pursuing everything…that interests me—and I hope to inspire others to allow themselves to be drawn to what they love.

My business is located at The Qi House, which is a Healing Arts business I own with my husband, Cary Hakam, who is an acupuncturist.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve taken some risks in my life. Deciding to move to a new city on a whim (a few times), living nomadically for 5 years—pre social media, leaving job security to try something new, living in my camper for 6 months – so that I could sort out what I wanted to do next, are a few of the risks I’ve taken. And I’m still here to talk about it. Starting my business felt like taking a risk. It can feel risky to be yourself, to live authentically, to take a leap of faith towards a dream that calls to you. I am all about taking those sorts of risks. For me, they make life worth living.
