Daily Inspiration: Meet Teddi Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teddi Parker

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The itch to start painting happened while I was studying abroad in Argentina. It began as a way to fill the empty walls of my friend’s homes, but after copying to learn got old I started trying to find my own style. I jumped on the daily painting movement and my skills improved much more quickly as I began painting smaller pieces and almost every day. Because of my daily posts, Instagram’s algorithm really helped me achieve the notoriety I have today – I just hit it at the right time I guess. I’ve had two babies (now 7 and 9 years old) and continue to paint almost daily.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Let’s see…I’ve never been able to take on too much, so I say no to a lot of opportunities. I did have my pieces in 2 galleries at one point (the IMS building in Minneapolis being one of them) but became a little overwhelmed at having to keep them both stocked – I don’t like when painting feels like work, it becomes hard to remember that it is fun. Interactions on social media are mostly good, but every now and then I get a nasty one that kind of throws me, makes me want to quit. But my worldview is such that the God who made me loves me yesterday, today and tomorrow – even if I don’t like me somedays.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I paint with mostly latex house paints, and sometimes Golden open acrylics (slow drying acrylics) if I’m painting plein air (outside). My style is bold and loose with emphasized color. I paint whatever intrigues me that week – from tulips in a glass vase to polar bears swimming in the arctic. Painting from life when I can, but when I just can’t find a polar bear to pose for me I use royalty free references from the internet. I think I’m most known for my paintings with reflective surfaces. In a still life, I love to use objects that distort in a reflective surface; Christmas baubles, mokka pots, silver milk steaming pitchers for example.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I homeschool my two daughters and am a highly skilled paper snowflake designer and cutter.
