Rising Stars: Meet Cait Hanson of Fargo, ND

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cait Hanson

Hi Cait, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I stumbled upon floral design when working an in-between job at a grocery store right after graduating college back in 2020. And that was when my passion for floral designing (unknowingly) started!

After my time at the grocery store, I had accepted a couple corporate jobs that used my degree in marketing – but something always felt off ever since I left my floral job. I had always wanted to start something creative from scratch on my own, but I often made excuses or believed the lies that I couldn’t do it or that I wasn’t capable enough.

With lots of prayer, I decided to take that first step towards something that would completely change everything. I quit my corporate job to pursue floral design. And even though it was scary jumping into the unknown, that moment was an answer to prayer and the clarity that I needed to wholeheartedly pursue my desire to do something creative. And that’s how Living Vine Floral began!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With not a lot of previous experience working with flowers, I realized I needed to teach myself A LOT of what floristry is!! And if I’m being honest, it was quite overwhelming. It was so easy to compare myself with florists who have been working in the industry for 10+ years. I truly had to train myself to not let those thoughts of comparison seep in and to just give myself grace as I went through those growing pains right at the beginning.

I’m so grateful for my job working in the floral department at my local grocery store and all the talented co-workers I had there. So overall, thanks to them and honestly…YouTube! Floral design trends are constantly changing and there is so much variety on how you can create arrangements depending on what brides prefer.

While there have been bumps along the way – such as figuring out my brand right from the get-go, learning how to create arrangements I’ve never made before, how to effectively use my marketing skills to share my story/brand with others, or to book that first wedding to get in the door – I’m so grateful to have such a great support system in my life through it all!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Since beginning my journey in floral design, I’ve fallen in love with designing arrangements for weddings! It is such a joy to receive that first inquiry email in my inbox from a bride and to meet up and discuss what they are envisioning for their special day. While my floral design style is continuously growing and evolving, I gravitate towards more organic, natural looking arrangements with lots of texture – a more romantic feel!

When I first began designing on my own, I exclusively worked with silk flowers due to my lack of work space and storage at the time, but going into 2025 I am now introducing fresh floral options to brides in Minnesota and North Dakota. I also offer a mix of both fresh and silk flowers to brides who want that for their wedding! Whether it be fresh floral arrangements for the wedding party, and more silk options for venue decor. I make it my priority to not only bring their vision to life, but also to respect and work within a budget they may have.

I am most proud of designing my first ever all-fresh floral wedding for my brother’s wedding in May 2024. The color palette was sunset colors like pastel pinks, oranges, blues, and beautiful greenery. It was so fun and special to use my skills for their day! I am so grateful to not only them, but to all of my clients who have been so trusting of the process and of my creative work!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Ever since I was little, I have always been drawn to creative projects; you would always catch me doodling something on my notebook, writing little poems, or putting on a “play” for my parents to a Celine Dion album in the kitchen. And at one point, my mom had thought that I would maybe become a surgeon because she noticed I loved working with my hands (I would never had lasted in a hospital doing that career!!)
