Today we’d like to introduce you to Treya Taylor
Hi Treya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The journey to founding Rooted Wombs started from a deeply personal place. I’ve always been passionate about holistic wellness and the power of women’s health, but it wasn’t until I had my own experiences that I truly understood the need for a space dedicated to nurturing and empowering women. After having my first son in 2019, I experienced Postpartum Depression very severely and tried to take my life. Thank God it wasn’t in His plan, but He had something far more greater in store for me.
Rooted Wombs was born from a desire to create a community where BIPOC women feel supported, educated, and connected to their bodies in a way that promotes healing and wholeness. In the beginning, it was just an idea—one fueled by research, personal experiences, and conversations with other women who shared similar struggles and aspirations. I started small, focusing on building awareness and creating resources that could truly make a difference.
Over time, what started as a passion project grew into something much bigger. I immersed myself in education, sought out mentorship, and continuously refined my approach to ensure that Rooted Wombs could be a space of transformation. Challenges were inevitable—whether it was figuring out the logistics of running a business, balancing growth with maintaining authenticity, or ensuring that every family who’s connected with Rooted Wombs felt seen and valued.
Today, I look back with gratitude at how far we’ve come. Rooted Wombs has become more than I could have imagined, and it continues to evolve. Seeing the impact it has on women’s lives, the community we’ve built, and the conversations we’ve sparked keeps me motivated every day. My journey to this point has been one of learning, resilience, and deep commitment, and I’m excited for all that’s ahead.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While the vision for Rooted Wombs has always been clear, the path has not been without its challenges. One of the biggest struggles we’ve faced is the lack of funding. Without adequate financial resources, it has been difficult to expand our services and provide the level of care that BIPOC and low-income families truly need. These communities face some of the greatest disparities in healthcare—barriers like systemic racism, lack of access to quality providers, financial constraints, and historical medical mistrust all play a role. Rooted Wombs is here to bridge that gap, but without sufficient funding, our ability to scale and reach more families remains limited.
Another challenge has been breaking down the misinformation and stigma surrounding holistic health and reproductive care. Many people—especially those in underserved communities—have not had access to proper education about their own bodies, let alone alternative and culturally competent care. Advocacy and awareness are just as important as the services we provide, and building trust within these communities takes time and consistent effort.
Despite these struggles, Rooted Wombs continues to push forward. The need is too great, and the impact we’ve already made proves that this work is necessary. We are actively seeking partnerships, funding opportunities, and community support to ensure that more families receive the care they deserve. This journey has been filled with challenges, but it has also been filled with purpose—and that’s what keeps us going.
We’ve been impressed with Rooted Wombs, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rooted Wombs is known for being a safe and nurturing space dedicated to holistic Doula services, wellness, education, and support—especially for BIPOC and low-income families. We are deeply committed to bridging the gap in maternal and reproductive healthcare by providing culturally competent care, advocacy, and resources that empower women to take charge of their health.
Our work centers around addressing the racial disparities in healthcare that disproportionately affect BIPOC communities. Through holistic wellness practices, education, and community support, we aim to ensure that every woman, regardless of her background, has access to the care and knowledge she needs to thrive.
We also want to be known for fostering a strong sense of community, where women can come together, share their experiences, and support one another. Whether it’s through workshops, one-on-one support, or outreach programs, Rooted Wombs is dedicated to creating lasting change and ensuring that no woman feels alone on her journey.
Despite challenges, we continue to be a beacon of hope and empowerment, working to create a world where reproductive wellness is accessible, inclusive, and affirming for all.
I am incredibly proud of how Rooted Wombs has remained true to its mission despite the challenges. Navigating a space where funding is limited, and resources for BIPOC and low-income families are often overlooked, hasn’t been easy. But we’ve continued to push forward, building something that stands for inclusivity, empowerment, and real change in the healthcare system.
Beyond the work itself, I am proud of the community we have created. Rooted Wombs isn’t just an organization—it’s a movement. It’s a space where families feel seen, heard, and supported in ways they never have before. Knowing that we are breaking barriers, advocating for change, and helping women reclaim their health and wellness is what keeps me going every day.

The Vision for Rooted Wombs
Rooted Wombs is more than just a service—it’s a movement toward reproductive justice, holistic wellness, and community-driven care. Our goal is to break down systemic barriers in healthcare and create a space where families particularly BIPOC and low-income families, can receive the care and support they deserve.
Why This Work Matters
The disparities in maternal and reproductive healthcare for BIPOC women are staggering. Black women are 4-5 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. These issues are deeply rooted in systemic racism, lack of access to quality care, and historical medical mistrust. Rooted Wombs exists to combat these disparities by offering culturally competent, holistic, and accessible care that prioritizes the well-being of our communities.
Challenges and the Need for Support-
While Rooted Wombs has made an impact, the lack of funding remains a significant challenge. Expanding our reach and providing more comprehensive services to underserved families requires financial resources and community support. We are actively working on partnerships, grants, and fundraising efforts to continue growing and making a difference.
How People Can Support Rooted Wombs-
Support can come in many forms—whether through funding, spreading awareness, volunteering, or simply engaging in conversations about reproductive justice. Every effort helps in our mission to provide better healthcare options and support systems for women who need them most.
Rooted Wombs is not just about addressing immediate needs—it’s about creating lasting change in the way reproductive healthcare is provided and perceived. We are here to empower, educate, and uplift our community ensuring that no one is left behind.
