Daily Inspiration: Meet Nate Reiman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Reiman

Hi nate, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I found photography as an art form around 22 yrs old. I’ve been surrounded by artists and skateboarders my entire life, I found curating art at Caffetto coffeeshop in the early 2000’s and found an affinity for finding artists and realized I’m good at organizing and arranging art in a visually pleasing way. I love to give people their shine, giving people confidence to keep making art and helping them promote themselves and help them promote an art opening. Three years ago I started curating art for Pilllar Forum Cafe and Commodities in northeast Minneapolis, as the coffeeshop has grown, so has the art events and the artists have become bigger and brighter, I am now curating group shows in the venue side of the space as well as am still having solo exhibitions of my own and participate in group shows as well. I consider myself more of a curator, a facilitator and make. ideas happen, I love working with people, and helping people believe in themselves enough to keep making art and keep being creative.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life has not been easy, My sons mom died of cancer when he was 6, Being a single parent I put my focus on raising my son. I found it hard to be creative and find inspiration. I found my passion again, 5 years ago, shooting skateboard events, I started documenting skateboarders in our scene and started making new friends. I met Corey 3 1/2 years ago and approached him about helping him curate art and have been doing so ever since.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a phot0grapher, I shoot real estate, family portraits, headshots, I make content for small businesses, I’m a licensed drone pilot, I hustle constantly to make ends meet through my creative endeavors. Being a skateboarder sets me apart from most, having a deep connection to the skateboard and underground art scene keeps me current and knowledgeable about new genres and new styles and approaches to doing things a new way. I”m most proud of my son, and that i’ve raised a powerful sensitive mixed race man by myself in this upside down world we live in.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
life is short, everyday we take a risk just by walking out the door. to follow your dreams is imperative, life is about taking risks. to live life, to do what your heart desires, to love and be loved. we are in a series of risk taking. if you’re not taking risks, you’re not living a full life. life is so unpredictable, to put yourself out there, to give someone a chance at loving you, to make your deepest desires come true is what life is about to me. risking it all is what truly matters.
