Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Hoof

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Hoof

Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for teaching started at a very young age. I’ve always loved working with children and always said I wanted to be a teacher someday. I’ve been teaching for 12 years. During COVID when the schools were shutdown I missed the classroom and my students like crazy. I was always one of those people who were like “I’ll never download Tik Tok” but without much to do and no where to go I ended up downloading it. I started watching teacher Tik toks and loved how they showed the fun and comedy side of teaching. There is a lot of misinformation about teachers and a lot of people who have the wrong idea of us. I started making my own videos to showcase the fun side of teaching and ended up creating a big community of followers such as teachers or other school staff, students, aspiring teachers, parents and more who could relate to my videos. I continue to make videos on Tik Tok, Instagram and YouTube. I’ve been able to have so many amazing school supplies, materials, games, etc. donated to my classroom for my students. I teach at a Title 1 school so majority of my diverse community of students come from low income homes so being able to provide them with these kinds of things at school creates the most inviting, inclusive and most importantly FUN classroom environment. I love being able to connect with other educators, brands who can provide things for my classroom and know that people are relating to my videos.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I had to get used to putting myself out there and getting out of my comfort zone a bit. Of course there are also a lot of negative people on the internet so getting comfortable with negative or critical comments on my videos. Like I said there are a lot of people who don’t appreciate teachers so I have had a lot of not always nice comments. And then of course just being comfortable being me! I like to be funny in my videos and putting yourself out there like that can be scary at times! I also am a single mom by choice of a sweet 5 year old boy so balancing teaching, content creating and parenting can be a challenge!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create teacher social media content on IG, YT and TT! Most of my videos are comedy videos where I am acting out scenes in the classroom, telling stories about real things that happened or simply just comical teacher content! I create content for Bored Teachers which is the biggest teacher comedy group. That has been my biggest accomplishment so far as a creator! I’m most proud of creating a community of followers who love watching my videos and who feel they can relate to me. Teaching can be exhausting and often you may feel under appreciated but I love that educators can watch my videos and not feel so alone! I would say what sets me apart from others is being able to think of specific scenarios that are super relatable and make content about them. I get a lot of comments on my videos like “this is SO relatable!” Or “do you have a camera in my classroom?!” I love seeing these comments! I also love how much I’ve been able to provide for my Title 1 classroom with donations from the social media community. I love seeing my students faces light up when I have something new for them to use in the classroom!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I would say I was always one to be really sarcastic and funny. I loved to laugh and make others laugh. I loved reading and writing my own books. I LOVED school! I also loved working with kids. My younger brother is 7 years younger than me so he was always my first student. I feel like I practically helped raise him! I also played soccer for 18 years through college. I was always very motivated and strong willed.
